The woman at Just Babies was SO wonderful to speak with. She seems like an amazing person. This agency goes through the State system (DYFS) and we are looking into it further. Amelia-did you adopt through Just Babies? How do you know about them? |

Hi Elizabeth, We have a newly place fost-adopt baby from Just Babies, and the people there are really wonderful. They have raised many foster/adoptive children themselves. At this point we do not know if we will be able to adopt our little one, so it is a waiting game sometimes. Just Babies specializes in kids who are pretty much heading toward adoption. But placement is fairly quick as opposed to private adoptions or International adoptions. We were licensed in I'd say Oct-November and had a placement in March. |

Wow! This is all such great news. I am PLing with lots of questions and everyone is very supportive and encouraging. It seems like Just Babies is a quality agency and that they have a lot of success stories. |

In what age range are the children? I find that the definition of 'baby' varies with certain agencies. |

Someone sent me a private email, yet the system will not allow me to reply directly, so I'll reply here. Their question was is there a chance the agency would place an infant with you (as temporary fostercare), yet someone ELSE gets to adopt the child in the end. In dealing with our agency, we were listed as "preadoptive foster parents", which meant we did not want any temporary placements. Therefore, they only considered us for infants who were slated for adoption. Once they placed him with us, from what we understood, there was NOT a chance that they would give him to anyone else to adopt WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BIOLOGICAL FAMILY. The law provides for a waiting period in which the BIOLOGICAL parents/family can change their minds, and in that case, yes he could have been taken away and returned to the biological parents. But once they place a child with a preadoptive parent(s), then they would not ordinarily remove him/her and place him/her with another family. There might be a chance that the biological parents would have some say so in selecting the adoptive parents, but that would depend on the agency and the situation - a good question to ask the agency. That was not an issue in our adoption. |

Again, thanks for all the amazingly helpful information on fost/adopt. Just Babies has been wonderful and the next training sesssion starts in May. I am hoping that with HUGE jitters and all my husband and I will go for it! Apparently, there are two couples on my block that ALSO adopted through Just Babies along with Amelia and Ina here in the posts. |
