Can anyone recommend a good place to get tires replaced? |

I like Costco because they are reasonable and give you that Road Hazard warranty. Last summer my husband replaced 2 of my tires at one of the places on Springfield (he didn't want to deal with Costco, so he called the places on SA, only one had the tires in stock) and literally a week later I had a blow out due to a nail. They didn't offer any type of road hazard coverage so I was out over $100. Sometimes bigger is better. |

Costco is good, if you have membership. Just get there as soon as they open and the installers will get you out. You can also get pricing on their website, www.costco.com |

... and if you're replacing all the tires, you may find out that, even if you include the cost of membership, Costco would still work out cost-effective. I used them a year ago to replace all the tires on my car, and the price was definitely right. If I remember right, the price also includes free tire rotation in the future for Costco fitted tires. That said, I do second the comment above - get there when the store is just opening. Drop your car off, do your shopping, and it should be done by the time you finish. |

After researching a bit, my husband used a place on Springfield Ave on the right-hand side near the golf place. He wanted a particular brand of tire (Toyo or something like that) that Costco didn't carry, and that place ordered them for us and installed the following day. The place is a bit of a dive (and clearly I can't remember the name) but they were pleasant to deal with and seemed to do a good business. |

I went to Costco the last time I needed tires. Didn't have to spend a fortune, and the whole thing took an hour (which allowed me plenty of time to shop). |

Ridge Tire in South Orange is great! It's on South Orange Ave right by the Verizon building. Everyone is very friendly, prices are good and they're in town - been there for 25 years or something. |

tirerack.com, beat the local dealers by over $150 on tires last summer. had them mounted at Autotech (diagonally across from Home Depot) for about $65. They're a tirerack installer -- so have the tires shipped right there. Also have been *great* when I had a tire warranty issue. /p |

I use Tire Rack, too. Sometimes, I talk to one of their salespeople on the phone first for advice on what tire suits me best. They know a lot and don't seem greedy. I bring the tires to a general repair shop, not a tire shop. A tire shop resents my buying elsewhere and charges a lot for mounting. A general repair shop doesn't mind and charges less.

www.tirerack.com They have a decision guide on the website that will tell you what the original equipment (OE) tires were on you car and give you the option of purchasing the same. Their sales people are wonderful and will recommend a similarly rated tire at a cheaper price. You can order your tires online and they will be drop shipped at the installer. The installer calls you when they come in and you set up your appointment. It works very well and they have a wider selection of tires than most places. |

Tirerack. Call for the live salesperson. Tires can be delivered to any local service station. However, call the station first and verify that they will work with you and that they have high speed balancing since some tires seem to require high speed. |

Anyone care to give an approximation on how much the installation was? (used the same tire in both, neither was on sale or anything) Tiretrack - 4 tires: 436 + 33 to ship: $469 (this does not include any installation, balancing, etc. COSTCO - 4 tires + installation, balancing, etc, note, the same type of tire: $495.96 Not sure what a local shop would charge for installation and balancing though. My guess is more than the $27 difference... |

Rick -- That Costco price seems good then, I paid $65 to have 4 tires mounted at Autotech. The tires I needed (which are a somewhat unusual size) were the *most* expensive at Costco, by far. (which is too bad, I shop at Costco whenever I can!) Pete |

Pete, I will say, when I put my car make and model in on costco.com I only got one choice back. I was surprised by the price because there were far cheaper models available on tiretrack.com. $65 seems like a pretty reasonable price though. |

I ordered from tirerack.com on 3/11. Tires shipped out 3/13 from their Delaware warehouse and ended up at my door on 3/14! They were two replacement tires that I couldn't find locally.

Autotech charged me a fee for disposal of my old tires of which I kept! I argued this point with them and they said it was part of their fee structure and I had no choice but to pay it even though they weren't disposing my old tires. Although I love tirerack, I won't use Autotech to mount my tires anymore. |
