Does anyone have any recommendations for good family hotels in San Diego? Also, any leads on discount tickets for see world/zoo/legoland? Thanks |

Try AAA for discount tickets. Most hotels in the area have some kind of discount tickets and we even scored coupons at Denny's. Last March we visited those exact three places. The Zoo is huge, lots of walking - take the tour bus. Legoland was fun for our son and if you have young children they will like it too. Its amazing what they can build with Legos. Sea World was fun. It was actually one of the best family vacations that we'd had to that point. We stayed at some hotel called the Hanalei Lion or something like that. I wouldn't recommend it at all. We got it through Priceline and it was cheap but definitely not worth it. It was close to everything (Legoland is actually about 30 minutes north of San Diego) but there is plenty to do in the area. I love that area of CA. |

We stayed at the Coronado Marriott and loved it! We stayed for a bit over a week and went to the Zoo a lot. It was cheapest for us to buy a family membership for the year and that way we saw the zoo for a few hours for several days and weren't exhausted trying to cram it into one day. Loved Sea World, although they get you on parking and really loved Coronado! We even took our 2 yo at the time to the local library for story hour and spent some time at a Coronado playground. Very friendly people and unbelieveable weather! (While we were there we fanatasized about relocating.) I think we went in June, so not sure how awesome the weather is this time of year. Enjoy yourselves! |

I stayed at the Travel Lodge in La Jolla several years ago. Not much in the way of amenities, but the location is great for walking around near the beach, the stores, restaurants, etc. Inexpensive. An easy drive to any tourist attractions in San Diego. |

Thanks everyone. Neither of us has been to SD yet and we are really looking forward to it. We definitely want to stay in Coronado and want to visit the three attractions previously mentioned. |

i think the family membership includes Sea World, the Zoo and the Wild Animal Park. The Wild Animal Park can be a little much for little kids. Sea World is not to be missed! I remember the first time we went thinking, dang, this costs a fortune... but it is so worth it. Don't miss the penguins (there are around 100 of them in a huge refrigerated environment -- King, Emperor, everything!), and definitely don't miss Arctic Zone (I think that's the name -- you go on a simulated flight and then into a pretend arctic base -- it is incredible). Legoland is fantastic, too (the kids can get driver's licenses and drive cars in this little area). The zoo is amazing -- don't miss the pandas! It's a great trip for kids. We've stayed in different places all the time, and probably more to the north than necessary for sight-seeing because of relatives were were visiting. Get a nice car -- the freeway drivers are insane there. It's a wonderful trip for kids; have a blast! |
