Sounds a lot like malaria to me, with ESL's diagnosis a close second.

Brett - what's up? The appointment was at 1:15 & I think Greentree & las were clear that you should take your Blackberry along or start a phone chain or something to give updates...are you waiting for a prescription? What's taking so long?? Also, did you recently have strep? Could be kidney infection as a result (according to Google). Are you looking jaundiced? |

Las - I will allow your "pneumonia as a complication of flu" to stand. ESL & Bob, I will take your bets, too, as we have not heard from Brett. And no, he has not communicated with me offline. |

And the winner is........ Do you believe I got there and had no fever what so ever!?!?!! I kid you not 98.6, I just checked again when I got home and mine said 98.6 also. I’m flummoxed. Peed into something, Bled into something. He told me to Drink fluids and take a bunch a Tylenol. He’ll call me tomorrow with the results, but I’m out of work until Thursday. It’s a virus of some kind, maybe the influenza, maybe something else. I’m surprised pneumonia made such a showing. I’m sure when he listened to my lungs he would have said something. I’m sorry for the let down, I’ll try to have a worse disease tomorrow.

I'm happy! I was the first to call "flu", even tho I got wimpy half-way thru. Flu is bad enough; you don't need anything worse. Although bird flu would have, indeed, been cool. Get lots of rest & feel better. |

How's your appetite? Differential diagnosis for influenza vs. appendicitis: flu you have no appetite, but still want to drink fluids. Appendicitis: You can't stomach any food or any drink at all. And, no, there's not always definitive abdominal pain with appendicitis, particulary if it has already ruptured. |

Does this thread set some kind of record for most posts in such a short period? And much less contentious than the reval or BOE threads (then and now) despite all the conflicting diagnoses! Hope you feel better soon. I would doubt that you would still be contagious by the time you fly. (At least, for the sake of all concerned, I hope that's true.) |

Sorry I came into this so late... this sounds EXACTLY like something a close friends just had two weeks ago. At first they thought it was a version of mono that is mild, but it turned out to be a funky virus. Can't wait to hear what it is! |

Forget about symptoms: Brett, tell us about that turkey sandwich! Was it coldcuts turkey, freshly sliced, did you happen to have a turkey in your fridge and you made a sandwich for lunch? Does that mean you have soup simmering for dinner? What kind of bread? Tomato? Russian? Apple juice because your sick? Orange juice for the vitamins? I started out on this thread because of my love of symptoms and illnesses. But now, he's EATING...

My first thought reading this thread was hepatitis, having known several people who have had it. Dark urine is a symptom. This causes bile in the urine, amking it mahogany or tea-colored. Flu-like symptoms are also prevalent. There may be mild fever or no fever. But if you've already seen a doc and s/he didn't mention this, you probably don't have it. They'd look at your eyeballs for signs of jaundice and if they didn't see any, this would probably go down on their list of suspicions (though they'd undoubtedly still run some tests just to make sure).

I’m not dead yet! So I got that going for me. I went to bed at about 10 last night, after taking 2 Tylenol. I opened the window about ½ and inch just so I could feel the cool air, amazingly I fell asleep in about a half an hour. I woke up at 2 and took 2 more, then had to do a pillow switch (ick). Low and behold I slept till 6 am. I’m still getting the sweats a little, and I’m looking forward to calling the doc at 1. I also forgot to say thanks for the good wishes that everyone posted.

Brett - in the off chance that you do have something going on with your liver, please switch to Advil. Tylenol is terribly toxic and damaging to your liver. No kidding - look it up. My doctor told me he thought it never should have been approved for OTC use. Furthermore, I knew a guy who died from cirrhosis of the liver - not from drinking, but from habitual misuse of Tylenol. Seriously, don't use it until you know what's wrong with you. And to everybody - never, ever take Tylenol if you've been drinking alcohol, and never, ever take more than the recommended dose. (this concludes today's public service announcement) |

It's almost and hour and Jay should have been done with his doctor phone call. Pillow changing sweats mean he's sick with something other than the flu. His sweats sound just like my late husband when he had pneumonia, and it wasn't heard with a stethescope, only found on the x-ray. Brett, post something. |

Well, the bright side is that this is usually a good sign that you are not critical. They'd have probably made a point of calling you if there were a problem. Funny aside - I had to have some brain scans a couple weeks ago. I was a bit anxious about the results and felt better that no one called me the same day (never a good sign). But, a few days later, my phone rang at 9:30p. It was my doctor, which immediately gave me a heart attack. You're calling me at 9:30 at night. This can't be good, says I. No, everything's fine, says he. I'm going on vacation for a few days and wanted to let you know before I left. So, keep drinking and sleeping.

OK Brett, I have an event to go to tonight and must leave by 4:45. If you don't hear from your Doc and post before then, I will be wondering what is wrong with you which will be annoying - since I don't even know you - and will distract me from a nice evening out in NYC. I'd much rather fully enjoy showing off my adorable new bag from the Tenth Muse and I'm kind of sorry I even started to read your thread... (At least let us know if you are feeling better!) |

Really, Brett. My Beloved is making dinner and if I go home and check MOL I will be eating my dinner in the garage. Since I'd like to leave by 5p today, please call your doctor and explain that your virtual friends have social engagements and this is an emergency. Sorry for leaving everyone hanging. The tests came back with out any elevated White Counts. So it’s not an infection, Kidney and liver are also fine. So the Diagnoses is that I have a Virus, don’t know what kind, but a virus none the less. So the cure…… Lay in bed, drink some fluids. I apologize for not getting right back but all hell kind of broke loose. I canceled my Omaha trip, but she is still going. The power went screwy for a little, and then the dog did. Had to get some work stuff organized and then get my mother off my back (She insisted on coming up from now through the end of time) Plan now is to rest and return to work on Monday. Oh yea and my Cholesterol is a little high.

Glad to hear it is not a serious infection. Rest and fluids are the way to go -- sounds like a good way to spend the day, actually. Maybe eat more oatmeal to deal with that cholesterol issue? (Seems like you've got a whole bunch of Jewish mothers here, Brett.) |
