Recommend: Nelsons, walking distance from train station. I don't know address but they are in the phone book.

Whenever this question comes up on MOL, I always recommend Bernie's Motors on Millburn Ave, just past the Maplewood line. Honest, honest, honest; great diagnosticians about anything that's wrong; if they can't fix it, they won't pretend to and won't charge you either. We've been going there for years, as have our family and friends. Don't know phone number offhand, but I'm sure it's in the phone book. Also walking distance from our house in Maplewood (near Mpldw village), but they'll drive you back or pick you up if you ask and someone is available. Check it out. I'll bet you'll be glad you did.

Hey thanks for the reccomendations! Unfortunately I went with to a chain place...not bad service...but I always feel like I paid too much. Definetly will look into these other places for the next scheduled maintenance or car repair. I'd rather go local when possible.

Anna,
Is Bernie's called Bernie's? I looked it up but can't find it. Do you have the #?

973 763 4432 Bernie's.

I second Anna's recommendation of Bernie's. We were teribly saddened to learn that Bernie died this past year. He had operated the Exxon station in South Orange before opening Bernie's a number of years ago. He was a true gentleman. His son BJ, who worked with him for years, now operates Bernie's.

RickB and SOresident -- Thanks Rick for coming up with the phone number. I think the actual name of the place is Bernie's Motor Cars.

We too were very sad to hear that Bernie died. He was a wonderful person, and someone who truly cared about his business and his customers in a way that is not common these days. BJ seems to be very much the same way -- his dad taught him well.

PS, over the years we've also bought several used cars from Bernie's and they were great! They don't have many for sale, but turn them over pretty fast, so it's worth checking if you're looking for something in particular. We still have one we bought in '96, which was at the time 3 years old. Still running great. Of course, Bernie's does all the repair work, which actually hasn't been much.

RickB, glad you tried Bernie's and were happy. You're right -- they do provide great customer service, and I'm always glad to recommend them.

I've had positive experiences with Willy's Sunoco in Florham Park. I work in Mo'town, so it's convenient. He is honest and does quality work as well.

Someone on another thread recommended Ridge Tires. Any opinions on that business?

We've had positive experiences with Maplewood Tire at Tuscan (?) and Springfield Ave (across from the Hilton Branch Library / Maplecrest Park) for oil changes / general maintenance.
