I was going on the Turnpike today and got in the EZ Pass lane by accident. There was no way for me to get out of it so I went through it. When I got off the Turnpike I went through it again becasue I did not have a ticket. Basically what kind of ticket or tickets am I going to get? |

I don't know, but my advice is that if you enter through EZ Pass accidentally again, exit through a regular lane and pay the toll. They'll charge you as if you took the longest distance possible. It's more than you'd like to pay but it's less than a ticket.

My mom didn't know what she was doing and drove on the parkway north where you just drive through and it automatically deducts from your EZ Pass. I assume if you don't have EZ Pass you need to get off the main section of road and pay at the gates. She didn't understand the signage and while she could tell that there was something strange and later asked about it, she had already done it like 5 times. Point being, I have like 5 of those tickets in my mail pile. I think it's like $35 - $50, each. |

If you pay the toll collector full fare for the longest distance kindly ask for a receipt. I was a toll collector for 11 years. |

I drove down the Parkway yesterday and twice the car in front of me in the EZ Pass lanes were recorded as not EZ Pass customers. I don't know. It can be confusing with the new high speed EZ Pass lanes I have to admit. Also, it bugged me that at the Essex Tolls there were two EZ Pass lanes and a hundred cars lined up while the pay as you go lanes had one or two cars in line at most. |

My mother recently did the same thing on the GSP South @ the Driscoll toll. She phoned someone (EZPass? number on the ticket?) and explained that she was unable to safely move to the non-EZPass lanes and they just told her to pay the 35 cent toll. |

Do you know anybody with an ezpass? Ask them for their transponder number and then when/if you get a ticket in the mail say your ezpass must not have worked and fill in the transponder number. That should be the end of it. I get notices all the time when the system fails (and it does often) and handle it this way. The plates on my new car are not registered with them. |

Carla, but how do we explain that the plates are different than the car with the transponder? Although both cars are registered with the same address so MAYBE just MAYBE this will work for us. |

Carla - you might be admitting more than you should here. I have never had a problem with EZ-Pass in the many years I have used it. |

On a trip a few months ago to Atlantic City the system did not work at two tolls. They took pictures of my plate. I sent the dispute in with my transponder number. I have not heard back. i don't expect to. |

The ticket is the cost of the toll (eg: $0.35) plus a $25 processing fee (eg: $25.35). You'll get a ticket by mail in about 6 weeks that displays a crystal-clear picture of your car driving thru the toll plaza. I would just pay the $25 and change. No use screwing up your karma. |

What karma is that? The 35 cent toll plaza karma - though most of them are 75 cents now. It might be against there rules to use a transponder in another car but it's not against the law. It's also not against the law to make a mistake and go through the wrong booth. If you don't want to send the transponder number just send them the toll and NOT the "processing fee". |

Karla--I'm thinking of the sort that sneaks up and bites you in the a*s when you tell a fib to save yourself $25. I just don't see the point in lying (and that is what it is called when you "say your ezpass must not have worked and fill in the transponder number" with someone else's number). If paying the $25 fine is not an option, she should do as some of the others above suggested and call customer service (1-888-288-6865) and explain the situation. They may excuse the first offense. If not, it would be unfortunate, but still not a good reason to fib, at least in my opinion. |
