My husband wants to acquire some kind of cell phone service so that he can leave the number with contractors, and get their call when they call back - he's discovered that they have limited patience with phone-tag. However, that's the only reason for the cell phone - other than that, he doesn't believe in them and doesn't want one. So we're looking into cheap preapid plans and my head is swimming after trying to figure out how this works. As far as I can figure out, this is the deal: 1) buy the phone 2) buy the minutes on a card or on the internet Is that it? what am I missing here? Anybody have experience with this kind of plan and know about any "gotchas?" Are there any truly dirt-cheap options? |

http://www.tracfone-orders.com/direct/tr/howitworks.jsp?tech=TOGSM3&techzip=0707 9 My wife has a Trak phone. You pay for the minutes and that's it - no monthly charges or hidden fees. |

My father just bought two cell phones from Tuyo (http://www.tuyo.com) which is really an offering from the company where I work, IDT. So far, so good. It's 20c a minute for the first ten minutes of the day and 10c a minute thereafter for that day. No contracts, no minimums, no forfeited minutes.

My T mobile plan is prepaid for one year for $100 plus tax. That's $8.50 per month. I don't think the rates are competitive, but with my usage, I will probably let the minutes expire in one year before I use them up. I only have it for an emergency. |
