Ah, the joys of divorced single-parenting.....Just found out that I have the kids for three weeks this summer at the end of August. Since I work mongo hours, I cannot put them in a day camp because I cannot drive and pick up, nor be here if they got bussed.

Got two signed up for overnight skateboard camp for 2 weeks (I am taking 1 week with them on vacation), but the middle child--ah, the middle child. He is not a boarder. He wants to do computer camp, but those do not run in late August.

So, does anyone have experience with a good overnight camp, with either a computer or nature orientation (he LOVES animals) or horseback riding/farming? The skateboarders will be in Pennsylvania, so a camp in that direction is best, but upstate New York is also an option since we will be heading up there for vacation after I get the other two.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Years ago I sent my boys to Camp Watonka--a science camp in the Poconos. I don't know if it still exists.

Eats,

Is Vermont an option?

If so, check out the Farm and Wilderness camps:

http://www.fandw.org/f/w/

I was a camper at Indian Brook circa 1975, it was one of my favorite summers ever.

I don't think it's changed much since I was a camper -

F&W has:lots of outdoor activities, a working farm, singing, swimming, hiking, great food, square dances, taking care of the animals - those are the things I remember most.

What they don't have: electricity in the cabins or flush toilets (we used outhouses back then, they probably still do)

Anyhow, don't know if Vermont is too far out of the way, but if you can, it's worth the detour.
