Anyone out there who works with TIVO? Lost our cable box nearly a year ago and my husband has given up on fixing the d__n thing. We miss it. Can anyone come over here and work on it (for a fee of course)? Tks |

I didn't know you could have TiVo with Comcast. Wow. Wow. WOW! This changes everything. |

We don't have a cable box and so the regular cable doesn't seem to work. It sets up, but always stays on ESPN even though the blue Tivo screen indicates the channel is changing. (It's not a 3/4 channel issue.) PS to las, yes you can have it with Comcast and our worked fine when we had the cable box. Just not now. |

Homeowner, I didn't know! I thought you could only get TiVo with satellite. Hence forward I am going to dedicate my life to taping and watching every episode of every series of Law & Order. I will never leave the house again. Thank you, Homeowner. Thank you so very, very much. TiVo and Comcast. Good for you. Good for New Jersey. |

I don't work for tivo, and unfortunately I can't offer any advice on your problem. But i can say from experience that yes, you can have tivo with comcast. And you only need a cable box if you have premium channels other than HBO. This is the main reason we won't get any of those premium channels - tivo changes channels so much faster when it doesn't have to go through a cable box first! In situations like yours, i've always gone over and posted on http://www.tivocommunity.com/. People who work for tivo frequent that board, and they've always helped me resolve my problems. Just do a search first, as almost everything under the sun has been discussed at one time or another. |

If you switch from cable box to non cable box you have to go into the setup section and change how your tivo is set up. During the initial setup, one of the question is, how do you connect to your cable provider. There are a number of choices, but one is cable box, one is tv only. I am not sure of this, but I think you have to completely go through the setup routine again to modify this setting. If you connect via broadband as opposed to phone line, you might need to connect again over the phone. This might have changed. When we moved to Maplewood 2 1/2 years ago I had to completly reset the tivo setup because we had a new provider adn new cable box and new TV. Don't fret though, it seems as though your problem is a setup issue only. If you want, PL me, but growler might be helping you already. |

las- I don't have Comcast, but I do have tivo with Cablevision. It's made my life both wonderful and miserable. The amount of tv I watch regularly has gone up to a disgusting level. I may be wrong, but it has something to do with giving the command to change channels- the difference between the optical IRC cable and something else. Changing your phone settings is under Messages and Settings->Settings->Phone Settings. You can also swtich from phone to network there. You may want to try Messages and Settings->Settings->Video Settings. There's an option called Video Hookup which may fix your problem, but I can't tell since apparently it disables your recording function and I'm recording in a couple of minutes. Also, Messages and Settings->Settings->Channel Settings->Channel Changing may actually be what you're looking for. I believe that's where you reset the commands to change the channel. Good luck!

We have the same problem with our TIVO once in a while. There are these little bars that go under the cable box (in the front of it). If these bars are not aligned with the box the TV will be stuck on one channel. They are connected to either the cable box or the TV with a samll thin wire. |
