My husband and I just got a house in Maplewood, and will be moving in the end of April. I do work in the City, but not always regular 9-5 times. There are some days I will want to take the train in at 10 and come back at 3 or 7 or some other time the jitney isn't running. I know that you need a permit, but my concern is that if I try to park near the train after the morning rush, there won't be any spots available. When does it "fill up"? How far away do you end up parking? Any suggestions? Is that the case? Will I have to drive to another station? Thanks so much! |

Sadly, it fills up pretty much by 8 at the outside. When I go in late, as I did today, around 10 I end up parking illegally in a 2 hour lot. Sometimes I get a ticket, sometimes I don't. |

Do not worry about it -- after 9:00 you can park on Durand legally and there are always spots. |

Between Ridgewood and Woodland -- the spots are NO PARKING BEFORE 9:00. |

If nothing else is available you can always park (permit-only 6-9am) west side of Woodland, between Beach and Jefferson. |

I believe the same applies to the Crescents, if you happen to be on that side of town. It also depends on what you consider far--before I got a permit, I would park on Durand right above Ridgewood, where you don't need a permit even before 9. |

After my partner drops off our son at day care -- which is around 8am there are no spots remotely close to the train---I pick up the car afterward to pick him up and end up walking to the top of the hill---which is a PAIN and usually makes me late picking him up. The parking situation stinks---probably because there are alot of people NOT FROM MAPLEWOOD with permits and using our spaces!!!! With the taxes we pay I certainly hope they are paying more then we are so at least we are generating some revenue.

Wow! New to town, only your second post, and you already sound like a seasoned veteran of the Maplewood parking and property tax wars! Welcome to Maplewood and to MOL--you're gonna find lots of company on MOL. |

Amy, they would have no way to get a permit without a Maplewood address. As for the public NJ Transit lots, those are open to all, including people from other towns, because they are owned and funded by NJ Transit, not Maplewood. |
