The only problem is, I don't think that Sonny's is kosher..stuff from kosher bakeries comes with a kosher sticker on the box attesting to its certification, really, not kidding...

Not Cait & Abby's (which has an extremely limited selection of parve desserts and they are kept in a case along with dairy desserts...)

There is a glatt kosher bakery in West Orange on in a strip mall very close to Eagle Rock Ave. I don't remember what it's called, but you could google for it.

Here it is:

West Orange Bake Shop, 480 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, 973-243-1300

I'd call ahead to order a dessert if possible; one time I just dropped to get desserts for kosher guests I was disappointed in the limited selection.

Sonny's has a sign on their wall that says that they are Kosher.

Cait & Abby's is certified kosher baking. However, it is not considered truly kosher (and the JCC will not accept products from there) because they are open on the weekends.

ESS, Cait & Abby's has a real kosher certification; however, because it is from a Conservative rabbi/organization, rather than an orthodox one, not everyone accepts it.

It isn't fair to simply say that it is not considered truly kosher -- it depends on who you ask.

However, in many kosher households, including ours, it is considered Kosher (as long as we don't buy it on Shabbat). I'll take it to a shiva call at any non-orthodox household, for example (the chocolate rugulah are a real crowd pleaser). Being open on Sunday, by the way, is not an issue.

Susan, you are correct; I should have been more clear.

As it happens, I, too, consider it kosher. My son is at the JCC, and the fact that the JCC doesn't consider it kosher is a pain.

I am lapsing, slowly but surely.

Thanks Ess! Sorry if I sound like a grump riding to Cait and Abby's defense, but I definitely want them to continue to do well!

I hear you; I love Cait & Abby's, too. It bothers me that the JCC doesn't consider them kosher.

For non-JCC baked goods, I go there all the time.
