The education thread is back but with no provision for posting questions as to the key issues in this year's Board of Education election, where the various candidates stand on these issues or the role each of the candidates has played up to now in shaping school policy.

As an empty nester whose offspring has not been in the school district for many years, I have relied on the Education threads in the past to get a feel for which candidates would make the best school board members.

I have read the literature posted on each candidate's website and listened to the LWV debate but I have found the campaign literature to lack necessary depth and the questions at the debate were extremely soft.

Can anyone offer any helpful background information?

Thanks in advance.

Joan

Dave:

In the box atop the main menu to the Message Board you state: "These elections are for candidates who represent both Maplewood and South Orange residents. The bulk of your tax dollars go to the local schools." Why are you so insistant about cutting off information and dialog directly related to what you admit is a crucial election that is only two weeks away?

In response to my query for information on the election, you post the PL addresses for the two incumbents, who have reviewable records, and the PL for one of the challengers whose MOL account has been dormant for well over a year and is therefore unlikely to be checking PL messages, assuming the e-mail account given at that time is still viable.

What about the other three challengers, the ones who have no identifiable MOL account? How are they to be contacted?

I can understand that the education threads have gotten more than a little volatile of late and that you are concerned about possible future law suits but couldn't you at least provide archived access to existing threads in which candidates and their supporters may have posted factual information regarding regarding issues and positions or better yet permit a reasoned discussion elsewhere on the message board?

Dave:

Thanks for the new thread on the up-coming school board election in the education section. Hopefully, it will generate some responses.
