Watchung reservation has a stable that's called Watchung stables (I believe) they have practice rings and organized trail rides. |

Beezie- There are a number of people from South Orange Maplewood who ride at the stable in West Orange. I take my friend's 10 year old for lessons every Thursday. |

Mem or Beezie, any place we can take the kids on a trail ride? Most places don't allow that until age 9 (from what I've read on some websites). When we go on vacation we have found places that allow all of us to ride, my husband even takes the youngest on a double saddle. Unfortunately, regular le$$on$ are not an option. We just enjoy it as a family activity. |

Shh, I board my horse at a barn called the Silver Bit and Spur in Whitehouse Station (about 40 minutes from MPWD). They have trail rides there. I believe it's about $35 per horse per hour. They have about 60 acres of trails you can ride thru. You get a horse matched to your capabilities and off you go, there are no tours, you ride on your own at your own pace. And don't worry about getting lost, the horses know where their home/dinner is . How old are your daughters?, I'm not sure if they have an age restriction... Beezie, tho I know longer live in the area (actually moved to hunterdon county to be close to my horse) I haven't been able to give up the MOL habit and would be happy to chat, feel free to PL me.

I don't think it's only girls. My husband rides as well, as a matter of fact we're taking a horseback riding trip together thru Ireland this fall. |

VIG - There are many stables for trail rides in Sussex county - some are farther than others. If you do a search with a map to see what you guys can tolerate distance-wise and then pick some I can let you know if they're good or not. Watchung is terrible, they abuse their horses. Good luck! |

Clearly, I could learn a lot about riding. The last few times I rode, my testicles were constantly and repeatedly crushed. I have that feeling associated with riding, so thinking of riding is painful for me.

Hank, Mr. Shh comes along, though once we started to trot and he found himself a bit uncomfortable. Jbirchby, not 100% sure if we could do it without a guide. The girls are almost 4, 8 & 10. (The 4 yo would ride with my husband.) Mem, I will look into Sussex Cty. I also found a place called Washington Stables, but that's in Piscataway. |

It's really not so bad, 60 acres is smaller than it sounds. Basically you can do one big circle. But, if you go on the weekend chances are I'll be there, I'd be happy to ride around with you all. You can ask Pippi how to find me if you decide you're interested, she knows where to find me. To the best of my knowledge Washington Stables has been on the brink of closing for a long time due to the poor treatment of their horses... |

Washington Stables is the last place I rode. I went because my daughter was dying to, so I went along. It's also a couple of miles from my workplace. As long as they're open, they're open. I haven't looked too carefully, but the horses seem happy. They have lots of room for grazing.

Yeah, I don't know. As I said, I probably have a lot to learn, starting with sitting in the saddle properly.

Pippi, that would be so much fun! Mr. Shh asked the girls what we could do together for their upcoming b-days...he suggested taking them to the mall so they could pick oout their own clothes (huh?) but when they heard horsebackriding they squealed! Next weekend is no good but if this Saturday is nice do you think we could go??? |

Beezie - I currently lease a horse and ride every saturday on the trails in sussex county. My friend and I board at Northbrook Stables in Branchville. Its about 45-50 minutes from here but well worth the ride. We dont do lessons or have organized trail rides, but there are plenty of other stables in the area that do those things. If you feel like chatting please feel free to pl me. Ive only been riding since 2002 but i've certainly learned alot since then! |

I keep mine in Barn #6 at the Meadowlands. They don’t have trails, but it’s one of the best tracks in the world. If you’re interested in racing around in circles, that’s a great place to go. |

Ahh, the one routine I missed! I will try to be in, still in pain from squatting /shuffling with a resistance band around my ankles. (Or as Mr. Vig says, hopping around like a gorilla). But, back to the horses...

Haha, I actually was going to guess that! Yes, back to the horses. Later this month is probably better cause I'm just getting my horse used to being back on trail (she sprained a ligament in the fall so was out of commission for a bit and I'm working her up gradually), plus it'll be nicer out. (If it's been a really rainy week I wouldn't recommend it, the trails get super muddy.) But that's about it, so stay in touch and let me know! |

MY BRIDEZILLA silly. You know, the one who wants the all the girls to wear gold thongs? The one who, when I told her my 3 girls were thinking about singing a few verses "Green rocky road, promenade in green, tell me who you love, tell me who you love..." told my brother "it's not karaoke!" |
