I am moving to Maplewood in 2 weeks and need to find a caring walker for my dog, Duncan. Does anyone have a good one to recommend? |

Preferred Pet Care has been walking our dogs every day for two years. They are absolutely excellent with them, and we wouldn't trust them with anyone else. Our dogs also stay at their place when we're out of town. They also offer a daily daycare, which is pretty much like an insane vacation for your dogs. Ours come home happy and exhausted. www.preferredpetcare.com |

I use a sixth grade girl across the street from me. With a little luck, you can find someone like her. She is totally reliable and says she has the best job in the world. Welcome to Maplewood!

Has anyone here ever had a reason not to trust any particular local dog walkers or services?

I have, but I think whenever someone is coming into your home and you are not present, you are open to potential problems. In my experience, Full time Dog Walkers tend to be eccentric individuals. You just need to keep that in mind. Pets can't speak, so there is a chance they will know more about you then you might think. They can go through your mail, personal belongings etc and who is going to tell? Get references and background checks. Make sure they have insurance. Just don't trust them. If they are not a neighborhood kid, screen them like you would a babysitter. After all, you are trusting your pet and your home to them. |

We have been using Nikki from Fauxpaws from almost 2 years and she and her partner Susan are amazing, very loving and very responsible. She leaves us a note everyday telling us what our girl did that day and she is very flexible with scheduling. Her # is 973-376-6230 www.fauxpawspetcare.com

julie, i second preferred pet care. they have been walking my dog for a year and a half and now they are walking my 5 month old pup as well. they are very good, they have a great boarding facility and they are moving to maplewood soon. also, they are extremely conscientious about any little thing. they leave detailed notes every day. when my dog and pup boarded last week, the dog had 2 seizures (i believe they are anxiety/abandonment related) 2 days in a row. they whisked him off to the doc both times, picked up medication, etc. an individual just walking dogs will not have the wherewithal to know what to do in case of an emergency. also, i would assume preferred pet care is insured for all kinds of things so there is always some recourse that can be taken in the event of a problem. |
