I am in an out of town wedding and have to get measured for a dress that will be ordered with all the other dresses. I was advised that any dress shop that sells bridesmaids dresses would happily do the proper measuring as a courtesy. I doubted that and called the only dress shop I knew of off-hand, Priscilla of Boston in Short Hills. The person I spoke to two days ago said of course, and no appt was needed - come in anytime. I was in the area this afternoon and when I got there I was told they won't do measurements for any stores besides Priscilla of Boston! ( Note to self: Never spend a red cent at Priscilla of Boston!) Does anyone know of a nearby dress store that would be willing to do this and do a good job? I should have gotten the measurements in today, and put it off this late b/c I thought it wasn't going to be a problem! Now I don't have time to run around. Thanks! |

I got my wedding dress at a store called Dressed to the Nines--which is primarily bridal, in spite of the name--in Morristown. Don't know if Morristown is near enough for you. It's really only 15-20 minutes from here. The folks there were very nice, very knowledgable and very helpful. Couldn't hurt to give them a try.

Personally, i'm sick of getting professionally measured for gowns for weddings, and then having the company order a dress 3 sizes larger than what i normally wear, only to have the entire dress taken apart and rebuilt later on when it comes in and it's way too big. Does this happen to anyone else?? Anyway, you can always measure yourself if you can't find somewhere to do it. The gown company may have a size chart on their website. If it doesn't, you can probably send in your measurements and just have the company pick the right size for you. You just measure the fullest part of your bust, your natural waistline (at your belly button), and the fullest part of your hips. |

Do you have a tailor that you go to? Maybe they can measure you. |

There's Hollywood Bridal on Stuyvesant St in Union. Very close. (Closer to Irvington than UNion Center)

Thanks! I don't know why I didn't think of a tailor - I guess b/c I was told to go to a dress shop I thought they might have a special/better way to measure? Thanks for all the suggestions!
