I am looking for a housekeeper/assistant to come 3- 4 days a week. I have a weekly cleaning person that I like, so it would probably not be to replace my cleaning lady. Instead, I would want this person to do things like: grocery shopping errands - dry cleaning, post office, shoe repair, birthday presents, etc. accept deliveries and those odd things that require someone to be home (cable, sprinklers, quotes, etc) light house keeping (make beds, straighten up, put out recycling, some laundry, water indoor plants, sweep porch, load/unload dishwasher) infrequent chores (polishing silver, really washing the baseboards and other woodwork, cleaning light fixtures,) We both work -- so this kind of stuff ends up taking the whole weekend or our evenings, so we have finally decided to bite the bullet and get someone else to do it. Any recommendations? How much should I expect to pay for a service of this type?

Only on TV would you find someone to do these everyday chores for you. |

Sounds like a real bummer, Minuswitt. Good luck in your search. |

Actually if any one has used a good housekeeper/domestic placement agency -- that might be a start. So any useful recommendations would be appreciated. |

AntoninaKC, I'm sure they are available, given the right price. The national topic is jobs Americans won't do, that immigrants do for low pay. So there is no job that no one will do. Minuswitt, sorry, I can't help, except to pontificate and argue, as above.

Sounds like at least some of this would be a perfect scenario for a college student with car or a local parent with children in school/preschool looking to earn some cash. Think there used to be a sevice with a name like "do for me". Suggest posting in the work section of MOL, maybe putting ad in News Record. Maybe you could pay the weekly cleaning person extra once in a while for those "infrequent chores" |

I think you will end up paying someon more then it's worth to come 3-4 days a week to do all that. It sounds like you're looking for a personal assistant and they can cost at least $100 a day. Good luck though. |

If you use the Maplewood Train station, check out the Concierge Service. While they won't be able to be at your house for deliveries and such, you can get groceries, drycleaning and assorted things like that done through them. Otherwise maybe posting at Seton Hall for a college student with a couple hours a day to spare? (Speaking as a SAHM, I don't think too many moms w/kids in school would have time to do that stuff for you, we're doing our own errands/emptying the dishwasher.) |

Check out Peapod.com. It's not a personal assistant, but it is really really convenient! |
