Our last Sony television went to TV heaven after about 8 years of constant use and one electrical storm without a surge protector.

Our "new" Sony WEGA television is about 4 years old with a surge protector. It is now refusing to show a picture without all sorts of weird distortions. Other junk TV in the house is just fine.

I will want to upgrade one day....just not now. Does anybody fix TV's for a reasonable price anymore?

The last Sony repairman came to the house for $150 only to tell me to buy a new one!

I think we still have a 19 inch color tv in our attic you are more then welcome to. It still worked a few years ago when we put it up there. It's a SuperMacy. There was nothing wrong with it. My mom just wanted a remore control TV so we got her one for Mother's Day a few years ago. There is NO way we will ever use this TV again. (If it's even still up there). I can ask my sister when she gets up.

Four or five years ago there was a TV repair place on SA near DePietros. We had a Sharp repaired there. I honestly don't remember if the shop is still there, nor do I remember how much the repair cost, but $150 kind of sticks in my mind. I lugged the TV to the shop.

We got our kitchen tv repaired a few years back at a place in West Orange, on (I think) South Valley -- whatever that street is at the bottom of the hill that runs parallel to Gregory and that eventually turns into N. Ridgewood when you hit South Orange. That's not very helpful, is it? Oh well, if I remember the name or address I will report back, we had a very good experience there (our tv cost much less to repair than replace) and I'd definitely suggest you give them a try if you can find them.

Well I have called Sony...

Because the TV is large (not huge!...just a 27" diagonal)they insist that I need a house call.

I think it will all cost me $250. I just hate having to pay it..I wish they lasted longer before a "fritz."

I looked at replacement costs and it is only about $375 to buy a new one...but of course I am interested in going away from the old "picture tube" style set the next time we buy and that means $$$.

JTA,
Thanks for the offer. We have a back-up upstairs too.
