Sakana is now Yama.

Depends what you're getting I think. Samurai in town is fine for funky rolls, I had sashimi once and wasn't blown away. Soups and salad are good. Love their hijiki.

Ariyoshi is good, last time I had sashimi I was disappointed, but I think it may have been an off night.

We end up at Samurai more because we can walk there.

Don't get me wrong; I made a run for the border almost every day of my high school life. Still love the stuff. But you can't call it "Mexican Food". It's a totally different food group.

Yes. A different food group. A delicious food group. Also love Torro Loco, but I definitely see your point. This thread is making me hungry...

Just for the record, I ROUTINELY choose Taco Bell over Torro Loco. They aren't the same, I agree. But I'll take the fake stuff over Torro Loco any day. Sorry, just not a big fan of bland authentic (if that is word you want to use for it) Mexican I guess.

The only redeeming quality of that place, IMO is the outdoor seating and the late(r) hours.

Alleygater...have you tried their shrimp faitas and fresh guac?? I am hardpressed to find comparable in the immediate area....and their whole stuffed fish is Mr. BGS' favorite...(Wendy-is the asterisk in the right place)?
B

Regarding sewshee....Just had lunch at the new Benihana...their new sushi area looks great....have not had any though...just wanted to throw out another option.

BGS - Asterisk = *
I think you meant to ask Wendy about the apostrophe.

Sorry mem, more thread drift but at least we help bump up.

If you mean apostrophe, yes, sort of, not really, I don't think so. Let me see if I can explain what I learned from my son's former language arts teacher (who I thought was wrong and so then I looked it up, hopefully correctly). Actually the apostrophe is in the right place. However, you’re missing another “s.”

To make normal possessives, which is what I just did in the above sentence - son's language arts teacher - you would add the apostrophe and then an "s." But what does one do when the singular word ends in an “s” such as your husband’s name or my son’s last name.

I was under the mistaken impression that as stated in one internet source (arguably wrongly): “Words ending with s, z or x generally omit the "s."

However according to my son’s teacher that is incorrect. The more correct rule – backed up by the following excerpt – is thus: “Note that although some people use just the apostrophe after singular nouns ending in s (the witness’ testimony, Burns’ poetry), the -’s is generally preferred because it more accurately reflects the modern pronunciation of these forms. However, in a few cases where the -’s is not pronounced, it is usual to add just the apostrophe: for righteousness’ (appearance’) sake."

Farshtaist? (Understood?)

The kids and I dig Haru on Academy. I also like Samurai Sushi, both locations. But for the real deal with just me and Mr. Kibbegirl, we go to Nobu or Megu in the city. Those places are absolutely incredible.

Suzanne and Wendy...how really embarrassing!!! Not only did I have to ask for help but I used the wrong terminology to boot. Of course I knew that it was an apostrophe...and Wendy...I will re-read your explanation when I get home as I cannot comprehend that much info in the middle of this perplexing afternoon.
Alley- if you like good shrimp you should enjoy the faitas at Toro!

I eat so much shrimp it's ridiculous. I am not sure I can tell good shrimp from most shrimp however. But I do know BAD shrimp (which is usually mushy).

When I eat out, I do vegetarian, shrimp and fish in order of frequency. I prefer good vegetarian options but can't always get it. I prefer fish but don't always trust the source/freshness or I don't feel like paying over $20 on my entree. And then there is shrimp.

Mem - Ariyoshi - eat in or take out... delish. Try the Sunset Roll

BGS - thanks for the tip.. I usually get enchiadas de mole poblano (I'll eat chocolate anytime!) .. I'll try the shrimp fajitas next time.
