Can anyone suggest a nice, casual, inexpensive restaurant within walking distance from Painting the Plates (or whatever that place is called)?

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by nice/inexpensive but I guess the 2 that would come to mind are the Japanese sushi place a block down & St James Gate a bit below the Japanese place. You do of course have family places like the diner & the pizza places which given our daughter is only 4 are very nice to us.

There isn't anything that fits that bill IMO.

Other's will comment on how much they LOVE Village Trattoria (bad pasta and mediocre pizza) and there is Samurai Sushi (which isn't really loved by many but the price won't break the bank) and Arturo's Pizza (which I actually think makes an ok brick oven pizza good for delivery, but the atmosphere is LACKING). A lot of people like St. James gate too. I am a vegetarian so I don't really care for the place's food and the service is usually slow because the place is usually packed...and with the music it also can be noisy.

I would say your best bet is acceptable Chinese at Bill and Harry's and eating it outside in the park across the street or in the bigger park on the other side of the train tracks. I also do like Cranes quite a bit for sandwich's but it's the same deal, very little seating (mediocre atmosphere) so your best bet is to make a picnic out of it by going across the street to the park.

I would say affordable yet good food is in short supply in Maplewood (especially in the village) as a general rule.

I haven't been for dinner yet, but many people have been touting the virtues of Here's to the Arts. They have a new dinner menu and a liquor license.
