I'd be more than happy to do it myself, but tragically I was born without any thumbs. She is 7 months pregnant. Any recommendations? Thanks! |

Diane Duran out of Verona. She used to operate out of my doctor's office (Physicians for Women's Health) and she came highly recommended by them. Now she works out of the Essex Group For Massage & Body Work in Verona. I think she actually teaches prenatal massage for certification in the state of NJ. Anyway, I 'm also around seven months pregnant and I had my first massage two weeks ago and it was great. In fact, I'm going back this week. Her number is 973-571-9655. Good luck!

I can recommend two. One is my wife, Carol Reingold and to show I'm not overly biased, I can also recommend Martha Bixler. They both work at Shakti, the yoga place on Springfield Ave in Maplewood.

Do you know what kind of massage she might like? Generally you have two basic choices for prenatal massage: swedish & shiatsu of those listed above that I know (all great): Linda Fox does mostly swedish, I believe (and that's what I've had from her - she offers great essential oil blends as well - very nice for pregnancy/labor). I think Diane Rose does either type (I've been to her for shiatsu) Someone not yet listed: Kelli DeFlora in Montclair...she is director of prenatal/postpartum yoga at StarSeed there. She offers shiatsu & has amazing pillows that cradle your belly...very relaxing. A second vote for Lynda Fox. I went to see her many times while pregnant and I always felt wonderful after our sessions. |

Thanks for all the help. I called a couple of the folks recommended but all the people I spoke to only seem to do the message in the side lying position, which may be fine for most, but my wife can't lay on her side for more than a minute without the pain becoming too much. It's her pelvis that really starts to hurt. She even sleeps on her back in a half sitting up position on a mountain of pillows. I was hoping to find someone with a pregnancy message table, but one person I spoke to said they recommend against it because it puts too much stress on the ligaments. Is this true? I had assumed they had elastic straps that would support the weight of the baby and allow mommy to lay on her front. Is this not the case? Thanks again! |

Don't know about the preg massage table. But if you can't find anything for a full body you might look into some of the spas that give shoulder/neck massages with facials. Or foot massages with pedicures. Just some other options. |

Does she sleep with pillows between her legs? That helped me when I was pregnant and lying on my side. It was the only way I could sleep. |

Try Kelli DeFlora, above...she has the sort of pillows with a hollow space so that the woman can be on her belly - most find it very comfortable & love the support...I think your wife will know if it feels good or is too much pressure...there is also the possibility of a chair massage (the sort where you lean forward with your face supported) - I know Lynda Fox has one of the chairs... |

I used to go to Soho Sanctuary in Manhattan and saw the "head" therapist, Linda I believe is her name, for prenatal massage. She is phenomenal. After my massage, I would treat myself to lunch at Balthazar or some other good cafe nearby. http://sohosanctuary.com/page/ntrd/Home_Page.html By the way, Lynda Fox is terrific too. |
