Hey Everyone!

We're moving into the neighborhood in the next month or so and I need to find a summer camp for my son. He's 4 years old. He has a Dec. birthday, so this is his first year in preschool/camp. He won't be going to Kindergarten until NEXT year.

I'm looking for a 1/2 or 3/4 day camp for him. I've seen some mixed reviews on South Mountain Y, which would be really close to us. So, I'm just looking for honest feedback on the Y summer programs and any suggestions for other camps.

Feel free to PL me if you want.

Thanks for your help!

Check out Camp Prospect, at Prospect Presbyterian Church. It is run by the Nursery School there. It is a half-day program, four or five days a week for most of the summer, but it won't provide complete coverage for childcare if that's what you need. Phone number is 973-763-8955.

Check the archives for lists of other preschools in the area ... I expect that many of them offer summer programs.

The South Mountain YMCA has the "Y-knots" camp for kids that age...I think the main facility is full but there is probably room at the SO location. It's full-day, with swimming each day.
Both towns also have camps - in SO you sign up at Baird Center - it's a half day program.
Good luck & welcome!

Your son would probably love Harbor Hills Day Camp www.hhdc.com. My son (5) and daughter (7) are going for the 2nd summer. Last year they went for all 8 weeks and loved it - they can't wait to go back!

My son was 4 last summer - they start there as young as 3 and have an early day option that ends, I think, at 2pm. My son went for the full day and although he sometimes fell asleep on the bus ride home, he just loved it. (They let you have the option of reverting to a shorter day option if you find your child doesn't handle the longer day well. Extremely flexible management and very customer-service oriented.)

I loved it too - not only b/c the kids had such a great time, but b/c the bus came at 8:05 and dropped off at 4:45-5:10 (depending on traffic). HHDC offers a full buffet of hot/cold lunch options daily and not having to make a lunch for the summer was a treat for me. Even my extremely picky-eater son enjoyed the lunch choices.
