Looking to buy some reasonably priced water shoes for the kids this summer. They'll need to be sturdy enough to hold up to going in and out of a lake with a very rocky bottom, in addition to a week at the beach and whatever else. I've gotten some from Land's End in the past, and they've been fine. Just looking for other ideas.

I actually just found a decent pair at Walgreen's in Union the other day, very reasonably priced, with decent tractor-tire type soles. We use them the same way, for a rocky lake area (also, tramping thru the woods to get to the lake) and similar outings.

I just ordered pairs from Lands End for each of my daughters, and they are incredible. In fact, they are already wearing them as regular sneakers -- they're that good. The mesh sides are augmented with some leather trim, so the foot is not super-exposed, and the soles are the same as sneakers. So they can wear them as breathable mesh sneakers without having to wear socks (no one in my family likes socks). The colors are amazing. And I think they were only $24 each or something.

I have a pair of those water shoes/sneakers from Land's End..... They are great.
I ordered them thru the catalog last year, and found the sizes ran plenty wide enough, but rather short. But, the other day I saw them in Sears Livingston. So now no need to pay shipping. Yes, lots of neat colors.

Run, though, to Sears. I bought them this am for every member of the family, and we already had to make some color compromises.

unfortunately those great Lands End water sneakers don't come in half sizes. I had to return both the 7 and the 8 <sniff>

they do come in fabulous colors and seemed like they would have been very comfortable (had they actually fit)

(Candy - they don't carry all colors in the Sears in Livingston. However, there is a customer service phone on the wall and you can order directly from Lands End - and pay no shipping. It's a great service. you can order anything the store doesn't have in stock)

Yeah, see, for me, $24 for shoes that are one season still seems a bit steep. Even winter boots. I go for the less expensive stuff on sale. But that's just how I budget. I'm happy to put the difference into better bread or fish from Whole Foods or else something extra that will last a long time. Like, we're off to Sports Authority for a serious sale on an all-sports playback that usually sells for $90 but is currently on sale for $50. The kid and I are splitting the cost. I gave her the choice: I'd buy one of the smaller, inexpensive versions solo for about $20-$30 or we could chip in and buy the big, lasts-forever version. It's such a fun way to teach decision-making.

My kid and my husband have worn their LE "water" shoes for a year now. Yeah, on snowy/rainy days they opted for others, but these shoes were great for all purposes, in most weather. So I think the $20 was well spent, especially given that the kid in question outgrown AND wears out stuff.

Sounds like you really did get your money's worth in this case! My kid's feet are growing so fast right now it's almost scary. I think she's about to enter puberty (omg!) so there's all kinds of changes happening 'round here.

Don't know if they fit wider feet, but Land's End customer service is the best so you should definately give them a call.

I actually bought those Land's End sneaker/water shoe things last year (or maybe it was the year before) and I agree they are really cool for all the reasons listed above. However, my oldest managed to scrape the top edge of the shoe on the rough surface of the bottom of the baby pool, and completely shredded the fabric edging. Maybe not sturdy enough for us!

M&TB, Lands' End has an unconditional guarantee, so lucky you, you can return them! Give them a call - they'll even send you a return mailing slip to return the ones that are shredded.

I recently returned a belt that was purchased a few years ago, but was hardly ever worn. The stitching on part of the edges started to unravel while the rest of the belt was clearly not very worn at all. They are happyily taking it back. This and their terrific customer service is why I buy all our basics at Lands' End.

Tip re: shipping. I take things that don't fit or don't look good on back to the Sears store and then reorder online and request free shipping since it is a replacement. They are very reasonable about you having to only pay shipping one way, which makes mailorder so much more palatable. Even if you decide to don't want to replace the same item in a differnt size, they'll give you free shipping on your ENTIRE next order just because you made a return - I love that!
