My sister has asked me to help her organize and run a carwash fundraiser at the school my nephews attend. Some of you may remember my posting about Travis, a schoolmate of my nephews. (Travis' brother who is the same age as my nephews, has been in school with my nephews for six years). The fundraiser is for his family to help with some of the medical bills. In the past year, his family has racked up more then $300,000 of debt in their fight against the cancer. Travis recently celebrated a milestone since the Bone Marrow Transplant a little more then 100 days ago! As far as the doctors can tell, the cancer is no longer in his body! He is considered 'in remission.' If he can stay this way for 5 years, he will be considered 'cancer free' or 'cured!' To help with the future bills, as well as the past ones, any money raised from the car wash will go to his family. There is a problem though, my sister didn't think of. What about the supplies needed for the car wash? By the time you lay out the money for the supplies, you've eaten into the donation for Travis' family I'm wondering if any of the Girl Scout / Boy Scout Leaders, or maybe the high school student groups who have run car washes have buckets, brushes, rags etc. they'd be willing to lend us? I also thought about hitting some of the stores in the area of the school asking for donations of these supplies. I did suggest to my sister to ask those volunteering to please bring a bucket, sponge and some 'rags' to dry the cars with. She didn't like that suggestion.
