This is a great idea! If such a thing existed here in Maplewood, I would actually get the dog I have been long dreaming about!

ok a little more about what I have in mind...
Similar to a babysitting coop. There would be about 12 members(dogs), and each would start with a certain # of "credits". Good for up to 24 hours of dog-sitting at another member's home. You earn credits by taking in other dogs by choice, and use your credits to "pay" for your dog to stay with someone else. Could be one day, could be however long. We would have the dogs and owners meet in advance, would have a little bio on both dog (ie: not ok off leash, medicines, etc) and home (ie: fenced in yard, kids, etc. I want to keep it simple, try not to get tied up with legal issues. A nice group of laid back but highly responsible dog owners. Key thing would be meeting as a group to hash things out in advance.
My motivation is that while my dog Miles likes 80% of dogs, that keeps him out of group kennels. I'm tired of driving him to Brooklyn to his old boarder, and my local person is no longer available. My friends will sometimes take him in, but I find it hard to repay the favor. I find it just as easy if not easier to look after another dog in addition to my own, since they entertain each other.
