Depends what you are looking for. I go to NYSC in Springfield. IT's nice, big and, best of all for me, has a great babysitter.

I agree with the post above - it depends on what you're looking for. I go to the NYSC in Livingston (closer for me in South Orange) - I believe it's bigger and a little nicer (newer) than the one in Springfield, but with most memberships you can use any gym during certain times. My sister goes to Motion in Millburn and pays the same montly rate as me and has complained about how small it is and their lack of equipment, but doesn't want to drive all the way to Springfield or Livingston. There's also a Curves in Maplewood and a Ladies Workout Express (basically the same thing) in South Orange.

Is the South Mountain Gym still in South Orange village? It was awesome.

I go to the NYSC in Springfield, too, and I noticed they have babysitting. (It's right by the door, how could I miss it?)

I like the club, parking never an issue and usually not too crowded. Machine maintenance is the only issue I'd point out.

Kittie, what do you do there? I'm either on the eliptical by the back wall by the window or down on the situp bench.

the nysc.com website offers trial memberships. they have a lot of locations, and depending on the type of membership you get, you can use them all at various times. the one in livingston has a pool.

I go to bally's on 22. my membership also allows me to go to ballys in NYC near Penn station. It's HUGE and has a pool (vital for me) and has lots of classes which I never take advantage of. It's a bit farther than Springfield, but easy enough to get to. I like it. Wish it were cheaper though...or maybe I should go more often!

There was recently a post about this...local gyms...do a search for more ideas. We go to Verona to Platinum Fitness, which has free child care and pretty good classes. It's also netxt ot a nice big Kings supermarket, just up the road from downtown Montclair, etc. Takes about 20 minutes to drive there, but well worth it.
