Amy - have you got a tens machine or something similar? I have a bad back and shoulder, and I find that this helps. Also, advil etc is a cumulative effect, sometimes it will take a few regular (per instructions!) does to get things working....so don't give up after just the one dose..

thanks. i don't know what a tens machine is, so i'm pretty sure i don't have one. i took aleve, it says to wait 8-10 hours before another dose. i'm not a big fan of it, so i'd rather not keep popping pills. would prefer to get to the heart of the problem, but that seems unlikely at least for today.

maybe i can get my toddler to jump on my back.

My doctor said that the point of diminishing returns is FOUR ibuprofen pills at once. And taking that many only occasionally is not dangerous for most people.

Here are two names. The first is my wife.

Carol Flamm Reingold, 973-378-8566

Martha Bixler, 973-951-7845

i want to thank everyone for their input. i finally found someone from madison who just left my house and am doing much much better.

i continue to be amazed at how friendly and caring the people are in this area. i was really in a tight spot this morning and now i get to go outside with my daughter and enjoy this gorgeous afternoon.

tom: i have seen your wife's ad, i shall be calling her in the future as a toddler wrecks havoc on my body. martha was absolutely so sweet and even called me a second time to check if i found someone since her schedule was jam packed.

Hope you feel better soon Amy. You are right about the caring people on MOL - I was very touched by their kindness when I first posted needing help.

I am glad the massage worked but you may want to see a doctor and try to discover what is causing your back problem so you can reduce/eliminate further problems. Very basic exercise such as walking or yoga can help strngthen back muscles and prevent a recurrence.

If it happens again try Icy Hot Patches (get them at CVS) and the Advil. It helped me when my back went out on vacation in Washington DC.

Amy -

Might be time for you to get to a chiropractor.

Pregnancy, leaning in and lifting up baby from a crib, carrying stroller, diaper bag on one arm and balancing baby on a hip going up and down stairs - it all does a number on the muscles that support your spine.

Since I've had kids I had occasional back spasms that laid me out, usually something little (like sleeping in a twin bed) would set them off. I started working with a chiropractor 4-5 months ago and I feel amazing, my back is still tired and achey occasionally, but I haven't had a flare-up since the adjustments.

Good luck!
