I'm looking for a local, mid-sized to large nursery with a knowledgeable staff. We're looking to plant vegetables, herbs, flowers.

If you can wait a bit, I'd highly reccommend the Maplewood Garden Club's Plant sale. It's usually the week before Mother's Day and they are really helpful with giving advice. They have all sorts of veggies/herbs/shrubs/trees/flowers.

I recently discovered Metropolitan Plant Exchange in West Orange, on Mt Pleasant. Seems like a great place, nice selection, decent prices, close and not huge, so good for quick runs for annuals, etc. You might give them a try. Another good place that I've relied on for years is Williams Nursery in Westfield -- much bigger than Metropolitan (in fact, absolutely enormous!), but pricy.

Just FYI - I called Dubrows to ask when they were opening, as they looked closed when I drove past recently - seems that they are no longer doing retail...

Williams Nursery in Springfield (take Meisel over rt, 22, it is on the left about 1/2 mile) always has a nice selection and the staff is quite knowledgeable and helpful.

Well, I was going to mention Dubrows. Thanks for the heads-up, doulamomma. If you don't mind driving a bit, the Great Swamp Greenhouse has a great selection http://www.greatswampgreenhouses.com/. The Farm at Green Village is also good http://www.thefarmatgreenvillage.com/. Orange Garden Supply in Orange, but if they are busy you won't get any help.

Definately go to the Maplewood Garden Club's sale. Info can be found here http://www.maplewoodgardenclub.org/ I got all my veggie plants there last year.

Do you get the White Flower Farm catalog? They are expensive to buy from, but the catalog is beautiful and I use it for inspiration.

Dubrows is only doing landscape design and installation work now, not retail.

Second vote for Metropoloitan in W.O. - just found it myself - great mid-sized place.
