Mr. Kibbegirl and I are having quite the disagreement. We were playing Bingo with the kiddies today and Mr. Kibbegirl insisted "we" were playing incorrectly. He believes that inorder to win, the player must have the word BINGO spelled out horizontally! Isn't that just plain nuts! He grabbed the instructions and continued his rant. No where in the instructions did it state BINGO must be played this way. I've been playing this game for eons and this is the first I heard of this way of playing. Maybe it's a Brooklyn thing? I don't want this to roll into a major row (silly things usually turn into screaming matches), but I know I'm right on this! |

Numbers such as B-2 or 0-68 are drawn at random (out of a possible 75 in American Bingo, and 90 in British and Australian Bingo) until one player completes a 'Bingo' pattern, such as a line with five numbers in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row on one of their cards and wins the prize. There are many possible patterns to play for. See here examples of bingo patterns (link opens new window). here are several different bingo games played throughout a session. The games vary with the bingo hall, but there are always “regular” games. In a regular game, you fill your card with a straight-line bingo – horizontal, diagonal, or vertical. In most regular games, “four corners” also counts. This is the top and bottom “B” and “O”. You will note that there are 75 possible BINGO numbers: B1, B2, B3, ... B15, I16, I17, I18, ... I30, N31, N32, ... O557, O75. Each of these numbers is represented by a ball in a large rotating bin. Each ball is painted with its unique BINGO number. An announcer spins the bin, reaches in a selects a ball, and a announces it to the room. The players check all of their cards to see if that number appears on their card. If it is, they mark it. When a player has a BINGO (5 in a row, column, or diagonal), he or she calls out BINGO. ALL THE WEB SITES AGREE, HOROZONTAL,VERTICAL OR DIAGONAL ALL WIN!!!! |

Oh God... the husband who is proved wrong. I know that sickening feeling, and I want to suggest that all the men on the board start projecting strong feelings of support for Mr. Kibbegirl. Something along the lines of, "you poor dumb bastard - we all feel for you".
