I guess I'm not superwoman after all... Does anyone know where I can find someone who can prepare meals in advance for me and my toddler? Dinners are a mess on the nights my husband is away on business. I'm also looking for someone to babysit in my home from about 6:30-8:30 on those days... I've got two little ones (7 months and 19 months) and need someone to entertain the older one while I feed the baby and put him to bed. It's a perfect gig for a responsible teenager! I'd need someone 2-3 evenings a week about every other week. Thanks!

I've seen two places on Rte. 10 in Hanover that prepares dinners for you. One place is in the same shopping center as Marshall's and I believe the other is LEt's Eat by Celentano near Toys R Us. I've also seen ads in the Kids Directory for chefs that come to your home, but I've never used these services. And...yes...we are all superwomen...even if we can't make homemade dinners every weeknight. |

I would also like to suggest Fork in the Road caterings soup delivery service. It's a local service (see recent Maplewood Matters) - you get an email mid week with the upcoming soup (and other goodies)menu, place your order by Friday and your soup gets delivered on Sunday. You can order extra to freeze for those nights you can't get it together. http://www.forkintheroadnj.com/ |

Try alazing.com. They are part of Omaha Steaks. On the site you will see either meals for 2 you can buy (or one VERY hungry person!!) and they also do packages of 4-5 meals. I have used them and can say that the quality is very very good and you can stick them in the oven or microwave. All meals come to you within about 3-4 days (less if you pay expedited shipping) and are in an insulated package so that you can take them out of the box frozen and straight into your freezer. Everything is clearly labelled... You have your hands full at the moment - it will get easier. My two are 21 months apart, and at times I felt like crying and that I was the worlds worst and most incapable Mother! I wasn't, I was just a Mum trying to get everything right. Don't try and be Superwoman - I heard it takes a LOT of people behind the scenes to make her appear so wonderful... Be a good Mum, burn a few cakes, spill some paint on the floor and just go with the flow... In your kids eyes you are superwoman - that's all that counts. |

Thank you thank you thank you! I'm signed up with forkintheroadnj and have already placed an order with alazing. This is just the kind of thing I'm looking for. Thanks for the kind words, Soparents -- it is an extremely challenging time right now. I think I've moved past the working-mom/superwoman fantasy and now would be satisfied if both kids are simply fed and clean. But even that is a monumental task some nights! (Heavy sigh.) Well, one thing at a time and sooner or later it'll calm down. |

I think that Tabatchnicks in the Millburn mall (next to Drug Fair) advertizes pre-prepared meals on their storefront window, though I've never been in there. Also, not sure if they do toddler food.

I can totally relate since I have 2 kids and my husband works nights. I've been getting them to fed/bathed & to bed myself for 6 years It does get a bit better when they are older and can amuse themselves for a while. There is nothing wrong with pasta for dinner (or gasp, macaroni and cheese) when things are stressful and you are flying solo. In our house Mac & cheese always comes w/peas and broccoli in it - my son was shocked when he went to someonelse's home for lunch and their's didn't have it. . We also have breakfast for dinner, too - last night it was whole wheat french toast, peaches and strawberries. Do you know any pre-teens in your neighborhood? Sounds like a good job for a mother's helper . |
