If you sell a house, and the seller demands a credit to do repair work, and you give it to him -- say $10,000 -- should you have to pay real estate commission on that $10,000? |

Usually you do pay a commission on the entire sales price of the house, including the credit. Have you agreed to the credit yet? If not, make nonpayment of the comission on the credit part of the negotiations. Your attorney would have to get the realtor involved, but if it is really $10,000, it is worth it. And usually the realtors see the fairness in this request. However, if the credit is less than $1,000, you will probably be sucking wind to try to get the commission reduced. If you give a closing cost credit, that is, if the price of the house is increased so that a credit can be given to the Buyer to cover closing costs, then you usually do not pay a commission on the increased amount.
