There is a very friendly male cat hanging about our neighborhood in the Montague/Tichenor area. He is a large white male (unfixed). He is super nice, and lets you pick him up or he rolls over and so you can rub his tummy. I can't imagine he isn't someone's pet, but he is often out and night and doesn't have a collar. I would love to take him in, but fear some other family is missing their pet. I haven't seen any lost cat notices that meet his description, so I thought I'd post his picture and see if anyone knows anything about him. |

Campbell' Have you called the JAC? If he's been around for a while I'd take him in. This was the chances of him being hit by a car lessened. If it turns out he has a family I would determine why he's not fixed and allowed out. I think it's irresponsible for people to allow a cat outside that isn't fixed. If someone does claim him, at least you kept him safe. Kind of like a Foster PArent. He is a looker! |

What's that you say kitty? You want to live with the Campbells? You think you can help the Campbell family get over their recent loss and sadness? Good, kitty! Wasn't me, Campbell - kitty said it all by himself. I'm just the translator. -Lynn |

This could be an unlicensed outdoor cat who lives with a family. The certainly sounds tame enough. Does he appear to be well fed? |

Unlicensed, not fixed and left outdoors? Keep him, you're bound to give him a more caring home. |

He does appear well fed. Definitely not scraggly or ill-kept looking. If he were neutered there wouldn't be a doubt in my mind he belonged to someone. He comes when called, and has no fears about walking right into the house and hanging out, so I know he is familiar with indoors. My neighbor and I are concerned that something might happen to him, which is why we are searching for his family. We also have a feral female cat around who tends to get knocked up fairly frequently, so that's a concern as well. Las - although I don't know if I'm ready yet - I think his appearance and friendly nature might be just the sign "from above" that I'm looking for. However, I don't want to deprive another family of their companion |

If he's not fixed I imagine his (human) parents aren't super-consciencious. Maplewood has lots of stray cats, it's so irresponsible to let out an un-fixed male - if he hooks up with strays that's about 30 new strays a year - 10 won't make it and 20 will in-breed and reproduce. If you like him and he fits in with your family, adopt him and fix him. Or take him to the JAC. I love cats, but strays are sad, even sadder are the strays who die by car, dog and disease.

Oh,he's meant for you! He needs you to take him to the vet, have him checked, bathed, and fixed, and take him home to stay. Cats are mystical--- a week after I had to part with my "grande old dame" at age 21, I was back in the vet's office with a stray older kitten who had found her way into my heart and home. The vet laughed at me as the new little girl popped her head out of the carrier, like a furry little jack-in-the-box,and I complained it was "too soon". The vet said: "It is never too soon, when the right cat picks you." >^.,.^< Calli

Though I agree with the consensus that you should keep that beautiful boy, I can't help picturing Mr. Campbell29 in all his indignant protest. This was meant to be, and I hope Creamsicle has a long and happy life with K and all. Tell grouchy I love him |

People For Animals. Hillside, NJ 908-964-6887. $40 for a male cat to be neutered - shots included. At least he won't make more. Poor thing. |

I am sitting here with little campbell, who has been reading our responses. She has been calling the kitty Attila Jr. (after our recently deceased pet). She asked me if I thought the new kitty was Attila's spirit returning. It is very conincidental that the new kitty, which is just as friendly as Attila is now hanging out with us. I will call JAC and see if he's been reported missin and keep an eye on him and try to get him inside so that, at the least I can get him fixed and taken care of in case his real parents show up. Yes, Mr. Campbell is not enthusiastic, says he wants to wait a year. The only thing I am wary of, is taking in the cat, making it our pet and discovering he belongs to someone else. It would be hard for us to start to love a cat, only to have to give him up. |

Let me amend my former statement: Cats and childrenare very mystical. Maybe he should be known as "Hun" in honor of Attila----seems to me, he's a honey of a cat. I understand your trepidation, but from his picture, it looks like he has been on the street for a little while (his punky little nose is a giveaway),so if his family is looking for him, they haven't looked hard enough. I don't mean to pressure you, sorry if I did, but just between us, I don't believe in coincidences---only Providence Whatever you decide, I think he's a pretty lucky guy to have found a family who is going to look out for him. Maybe you could put a collar on him with your phone number. Then, if he has a home to go home to, the people will relaize what is going on. You could use a permanent marker to write "please call us if this is your cat" and your phone number right on the collar. |

Another thought. I know from my own experience the four legged one who lives with us refuses to wear a collar. Anything we put on her she goes nuts until she either gets it off or starts to choke to the point her tounge is hanging out and her eyes are bullging. Luckily she has a micro chip in case she gets out. BUT the kitty who wants very much to be loved by your family isn't even fixed. Maybe the JAC can scan him for you? |

If you end up bringing this cat in, even if it's just to have him neutered, please do not expose him to your little campbell until he's been tested. Intact male cats, especially strays, are at risk for having FIV from fighting with other strays. Do you have a way for him to be "contained" - garage, maybe - if he will be having surgery? At least it's not the middle of winter. |

ask the wooley guy around the corner. he is very into feeding the strays and knows where most of the animals in this neighborhood hang out. also, james herriot used to recommend you get a new pet right away (will that have any weight with mr. campbell?) |

Hold on a second. While I agree that letting a non-neutered cat run around is not a good idea and totally irresponsible, from the description you give, well fed, etc and his friendly nature he is almost certainly someones pet. While I know a lot of cat lovers don't feel that cats should be allowed outdoors, there is another rather large subset who feels that a cats gota do what a cats gota do, meaning roam the territory, catch mice and in general be a cat even though statistically they are going to have a shorter life. I would make absolutely sure that he is a stray, again imho unlikely, before taking him in.

Cats made a good point. The cat might be friendly, but he could have FL. Can you take him to a vet like cat suggested? |

Our friend was here this morning. My daughter went into the back yard and fed him and hung out with him and petted him for awhile. We left our back door open so he could come in if he wanted. He made it inside and as my child says "he even knows how to drink from the toilet". I am going to call the JAC when it opens and see if he has been reported missing. We will feed him again this evening if he's still around. Mr. Campbell is still saying "this strategy won't work". Little Campbell says "You are not the boss - Mom is" |
