My 2 year old poked me in the eye with his finger yesterday. It hurt at the time and now I have been awakened by the pain. It hurts to open the eye. Anyone know an eye doctor who will see patients on Sunday? I already know about the existence of emergency rooms. Many thanks in advance.

If that does not work, go to an ER.

As one who has had this happen to him let me give you some advice. It should be looked at ASAP. It sounds like you have a cut/tear on your lens. This is very painful not just because of the cut/tear, but also the light coming into the eye is changed and it hits the optical nerves differently.

Once you have it taken care of today, I strongly urge you to see a good eye doctor. If, for any reason, the pain continues for a couple days or returns in a day or two, SEE A DIFFERENT DOCTOR. You may have an infection that can cause serious problems down the road.

Also, tears, more than cuts, take a long time to heal. Since the eye is always moist a scab will cover the area for up to a year. This will not affect your vision, at least it did not to me, but you can easily re-open the tear, especially in the morning when you first open your eyes. This is when your eyes are the driest. If you re-tear it, the waiting period starts all over again. And this really sucks.

What I had to do was put eye drops in every night for a year, and that really sucks. But this prevented any occurrence of new tears. After a year I went back to the doctor to make sure that everything was OK and I could stop using the drops.

I hope all works out. I definitely feel your pain.

How's your eye?

See well, all.
