Moishes in Jersey City. I've used them a few times and have nothing but positive things to say about them.

The one time I decided to use a more local mover, which was approx. 1 year ago, I regretted it. I can't think of his name right now, but he's a very tall, thin, Caucasian man, in his 40's, who lives in Maplewood. He and his guys were terrible!

Example: On the day of the move his guys actually refused to move any electronic equipment (TV, Stereo), because they didn't know how to wrap it?!? When I called this man, (who, by the way, took a personal inventory of the items to be moved prior to giving us a price) couldn't give me a straight answer as to why his guys couldn't move my TV and stereo.

I don't know why I didn't use Moishes for the move, but that decision cost me!

I've always used flatrate.com - they're based in Manhattan, but do lots of moves in the area. We're using them to move from Manhattan to Maplewood. I also have lots of friends that have used them. They're very reliable, fairly priced, etc... They'll pack you and move you, or just move you. They charge based on the "amount of stuff" you have and there are never any hidden charges or surprises.

My friend just used a group called Chatham Movers (Chatham something, for sure) and she was very pleased. I don't think they were the cheapest, but I also don't think they were the most expensive she had quotes from. The move went perfectly and nothing was scratched, lost or otherwise badly moved.

They also told her how she could save $ off their estimate. Apprently the highest ticket items to move are lights/lamps and art work - so the family moved these things themselves and saved much $. This is the one instance I have ever heard of where the actual bill was way less than the estimated cost!

I used "Frank Richter" who (I think!) are based over in Guttenberg/West New York area of NJ. They were superb. VERY reasonable pricing. I have had friends who used them and all said that they would do so again should the need arise.

Very careful with our items, quick and efficient. I have had terrible experiences with movers, so they were a very pleasant surprise!

Our realtor/friend has used Always Payless Movers many times and recommended them to us for our upcoming move. She says they've moved her house twice and even moved her stuff into storage when she was getting her floors re-done or interior painting, etc. I've met the owner, Bob and I can't tell you how sweet and courteous this man is! They will be packing and moving for us and I almost fell off my seat when the company called to give us a price quote! REASONABLE!!! I'll give you guys follow-up after our move, but I feel good about him and his company. And speaking of electronic equipment, he said all of that would be bubble wrapped, so we don't have to worry about anything. His number is 973-373-4242.
