We're invited to a party for a friends daughters communion. What do you give as a gift?

As part of our niece's gift, we gave her a book of Saints which I found at Barnes and Noble (they had a great selection). She loves it! You have to consider the audience, however, since most of their lives ended rather violently.

My niece loved it when we gave her a small crucifix on a chain. Preferably silver, platinum or white gold. (She has expensive taste.)

I think it is appropriate to get a religious gift if you yourself are affiliated with the religion in question. Otherwise I would get something more generic. A gift card from Barnes & Noble maybe?

most of the time the parents or grandparents buy the crucifix on a chain unless you know otherwise. i always go with a savings bond and you can get one for as low as $25 and a nice card. if its a relative i buy the bond and a small gift such as a book, communion teddy bear, rosary, etc. you don't want the child to get too many repeat gifts so that's why i like the bonds (they come in handy in the future).

colleen : twenty bucks in a card sounds fine to me . sometimes that always makes it easier rather than going crazy trying to find a gift. go for it and don't even think about it anymore and this is coming from a catholic who has been to many communions !!!! enjoy meeting up with your friends !
