Looking for somewhere besides the usual outfits at Livingston Mall (Sears, Cohen's) to get checkups and new glasses for kids. Any suggestions? We need NASA Space Shuttle-strength hardware to bolt onto their heads. The Rodeo Drive look is not practical or desirable in our case. I also want to avoid a Maplewood Post Office-like atmosphere for the purchase. Costco? Anyone?

You must see Dr. Bregman. You will be very happy you did. Speaking of which, she is going to dilate my pupils tonight. Can anyone give me a ride there or home? My appointment is at 8pm.

For eyewear, I can recommend the Flexon frames. They are much sturdier than the average bear. http://www.marchon.com/htmls_2004/flexonkids.html |

Costco doesn't do glasses for young kids, so if yours is under 5 don't bother. I take my 3 yo to Ganny Russ on Milburn Av (it's across from the old abandoned Saks building) for her glasses. They are open 7 days a week and are very accommodating to "drop ins" to get the frame readjusted. They also have a "full replacement guarantee" for most frames that are damaged by "normal kid use" (but not when a kid drops them out of the wagon and they get run over on Walton ). We use Dr. Jay Weinstein in Westfield for the eye exams since she's eye problems. He's a great pediatric opthamologist. |

We use Dr. Rudy Wagner, he is a great pediatric opthamologist but we buy the glasses, prescription goggles etc at Test-Rite opticians in Livingston. Not cheap by any means but excellent service, good range of frames and pleasant atmosphere. |

My daughters are seen by Dr Amy Breckenridge (Pediatric Eye Assoc) Old Short Hills Road Livingston. 973 422 1230. She is wonderful with children, and they have a place there where you can choose the glasses if you wish. I have been back there more times than I care to remember with bent frames and Jeff in the glasses place is always really helpful in bending/unbending the frames!!!! |
