What's the going rate for teenage babysitters per hour? This is for a two-year-old but I'll be home as well...
Thanks

How old is the sitter? Depending on experience and age between $7 and $9

If you'll be home this makes it more of a mother's helper job. Depending on the age, experience and what you want the sitter to do, you may be able to start them at $5/hour.

You should give then at least $10 an hour. Think about it, you are trusting this person with your babies! So thats assuming that she/he is qualified and of age (7-8 grade for children over 5 and HS and older for children under 5). Just a suggestion though.

I just hired a 13-year-old to be my mother's helper this summer. My three-year-old and twin one-year-olds keep me very busy and I look forward to having another pair of helping hands. I don't plan to leave her alone with the children often, rather, to have her help me keep track of everyone at the pool or the park. We agreed on $5 per hour when we're all together but $7 when she is alone with one or more of the kids. She said that that is exactly what her friends are getting.

Actually, that's not what she wrote.

I am a 31 year old woman, single, early childhood teacher. I get paid $12-15/hr. When I was in college and babysitting I was paid $10/hr. I graduated in 1998 to give you a timeline. When they go away and leave me with the kids I get $150 a night. A good, responsible babysitter is hard to come by. I know because this in part because of the amount of jobs I turn away. I get paid well because they want to "keep" me. It works! By the way, I was only charging $10/hr until last year. The families were the ones to increase the hourly rate.

My 14-year-old usually gets $8/hour for babysitting and that seems consistent with what other teenagers we know get paid. Older teens who can drive get a bit more. Her 10-year-old sister gets $4/hour for mother's helpering one child.

Perhpas I wasn't clear. I don't plan to leave my mother's helper alone with the kids often, and to be more specific, NEVER at the pool or the park. If I were to need to pick up a prescription or a couple of groceries, I might leave her AT HOME with the twins for a short time while I take my son with me.

Give me some credit! I hired a mothers helper because I recognize that going to the pool with three little ones would not be possible without help.

LL, you know I love ya, but I think you misread this one. Sounds like Cppkqp is far more on top of things than most -- eg she realizes that three small kids + pool = insanity.
