I am moving to NJ from Park Slope shortly and I think the rates for Nannies are different. Can someone let me know the hourly and/or weekly rate for a live-in and live-out.

Thanks,
Susan

Welcome to NJ. I grew up in Park Slope and only moved to Maplewood a couple of years ago.

How many children do you have? How many hours and days per week will you need help for? What responsibilities will the nanny have other than taking care of your kid(s)?

I'm currently paying $13/hr for my 14-mnth old daughter. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. No light housekeeping. From what I understand, I'm paying a little more than most in Maplewood.

A few years ago we were paying $425/wk for live-out, full-time nanny. We now have an au pair, which is roughly half the cost, but you have to provide room and board.

We just moved to Maplewood from Park Slope about a month ago and find the rates to be pretty similar. Typical is $10-12 [average] an hour. We're paying slightly more a week here because we have our nanny working an extra hour longer due to commutes etc. but it works out to the same hourly rate that we paid in PS.

BTW - you are going to love it here! I didn't think I'd find a place I loved more than Park Slope, but Maplewood is it!

Best,
Madhu

We also moved from Brooklyn (Windsor Terrace) going on 2 years now. A few years ago I started a yahoo group called From Brooklyn To NJ. If you're interested in joining, you can send an email to frombrooklyntonj-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
