We used Friendly Tree service about a year and a half ago to remove a large ash tree in our back yard. They gave us the best price but gave us the run-around on when they would remove the tree, nearly holding up our construction project. They told me that their pricing is, in part, determined by timing - if they're doing the work in the short term, it's more expensive; if they're quoting you for a job they can do a month or so later, the price drops.

Having said that, they did a good job, removing a large tree located close to both our house and our neighbors' house. They chipped the branches, and took away the trunk and all debris (except for the logs we kept for firewood). They ground the stump down nicely too.

If you use them, be prepared to confirm and re-confirm the date they're coming. Despite doing so, they didn't show on the day promised and only came when we demanded that they do so in order to avoid delaying excavation for our new family room. Good luck.

We recently used Carew Tree Experts and have nothing but good things to say about them. I can't find his card, but I'm sure a search would find his number. Good luck!

Friendly did a large tree removal for us last fall. It was a tough job and they did some damage to a neighbor's driveway. Both the neighbor and I expected a big hassle, but they owned up and had the damage repaired quickly.
Overall I think they are very professional and have the equiptment and know how to do the tough jobs.

For more routine trimming and such we use PJ Tree whose prices have always been reasonable and Paul does a good job.

Second Frank's, esp. if it's a big job requiring cherry picker or whatever. They ran their truck(s) all the way through our back yard, cut down a very big old (mostly dead) tree tangled up in electric wires, cleaned up, and there wasn't even any sign they ran the trucks over the grass. Job done promptly and completely, no hassles, nice guy.

Just had Happy Trees remove a tree for us a few weeks ago. They did a great job and were a good deal cheaper than all of the other estimates we got. I think they are out of Bloomfield - I don't have their number handy.
