Can anyone tell me which one is better or are they both the same?

Thanks!

Do you have a lot of trees around your home?

We selected Directv as we felt it was better. This was FEB 05.. had a guy come and "check out our suitability" as we told them that we were up by the reservation and loads of trees etc could cause problems... he said we were great and 100% 365 days a year line of sight...

Superb picture, great selection of channels........ until May 05 when all the trees bloomed.

We are now back with Cablevision... We miss BBC America...

Soparents,

We don't live in the reservation area. We have some trees but I don't think enough to block the signal like you. I also see a couple of dishes from a neighbor on the other street. Did DirecTV give you a hard time when you returned the dish?

If you are going to get DirecTV, make sure you have it installed in the spring when all the trees are in bloom.

Mine was installed in November of whatever year. It was fine until spring, when the trees sprouted leaves and blossoms. I called DirecTV and had them readjust the position of the satellite dish. Have had very very few problems since. Occasionally, in a really severe storm, the satellite loses signal, but generally speaking, losing signal has not been an issue.

I get more channels than I could possibly need. I am not unhappy with it, but if I were to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would get cable and a cable modem.

We have DishTV and love it. Comes with a whole bunch of Sirius music channels which we listen to a lot during the day.

I personlly don't like Rupert Murdoch, that's why DirectTV is no option for me.

The one thing with Dish is that you need two dishes if you want to get all the channels (even three if you want to get some of the european programming that they offer for an extra fee).

I hate DirectTv. I am switching back to cable. I suppose it's a good option for people who want specific "boutique" channels or want to get foreign news in native languages, but I find the fact that the local channels are in the 800s while the "cable" channels are spread out around the 200s 300s and 400s very annoying. Also some "basic" channels we got with extended basic cable, we didn't get with DirectTv. You had to pay for them. Plus, service was lousy.

Just my 2 cents.

Da Lat,

Directv wouldn't take the dish etc back.... They wouldn't refund me even when I told them that basically we had been scammed into taking it and that we were told by the Directtv guy that even with the trees we wouldn't have a problem....Things got pretty nasty....bottom line is we got a full refund put through on their "records" as refund of monies paid due to loss of service (programming) as they are unable to take back/refund equipment .... I think they actually overpaid by about $15 and I still have all the equipment...

I don't like Cablevision but we have no choice.

We love Dish. Almost no problems for six years. Waiting for Verizon's fiber network. We chose dish over Direct because of the channel choices.

We have Direct TV on all five TV's and love it. I refuse to give it up because we have ABC and NBC West Coast as well as East Coast. We lucked out with this because it took months and months of me calling trying to get it. The affilates won't allow this anymore. Something about 'advertising dollars.' We are 'grandfathered' in so as long as we have Direct TV, we can keep the channels.

We also have TIVO on two TV's and Direct TV DVR on one. I think our dish actually has three of those little things. We TIVO a lot, if not most of the shows we watch on a regular basis. This way we start to watch them 15 minutes after they start so we can fast forward past the commericals.

I will never go back to cablegarbage! Might try what Verizon offers when they get into South Orange.

Another ex-Comcast client here that LOVES DirecTv.
We went with them because the angle for the DISH wouldn't clear the trees along Elmwood Ave.
The DirecTv dish is angled to another direction, and we get great reception.
Comcast's reception & Customer service sucked!

We've had directTV since 1994 and have always been pleased with it.

Soparent, my neighbor at our old house had the exact same problem, except he was using Dish TV. He couldn't get out of the deal, either, though I'm not sure how hard he tried.

I got so high-pressured from the rep
that I stayed with my cable.
