I just noticed there are quite a few empty storefronts on Valley, from the high school down a few blocks toward Maplewood. Anyone know who might be moving into some of the empty spaces? Any idea as to how quickly they will be filled in comparison to all the empty South Orange storefronts? |

I noticed that Gordon Electric FINALLY shut down last weekend at the intersection of Valley and Parker (catty corner from the high school). I haven't lived here long but even I was sad to see that place go. With the old electronics and appliances in the window to the old sign on the side and back of the building. You can tell that will be losing a bit of Maplewood history and character with the closing of that place. |

I remember reading (probably on MOL) a long time ago that someone wanted to build a large store, I think a Walgreens and was trying to get the space from the corner of Gordon's and a few adjoining store fronts and there was some sort of tie in with the YMCA. Does anyone remember that ? I am sort of amazed that the old Mario's Luncheonette sight is still empty. With all the H.S. traffic as well as the Y and Hammond Office building I think a Bagel Store (ala Bagel Chateau) would do well as long as it's offerings were well priced (for the students). what do you think ? |

I am hoping now that Gordon's is closed, something will FINALLY be done with the luncheonette. As for a bagel store, I wouldn't mind some sort of deli or other food store (a la Cranes) that would be open on Sundays (unlike Tara's across the street and down the block, which is not open on sundays.) In addition to the two storefronts mentioned above, there appear to be empty stores just past Jefferson, too. |

I was told that Maplewood Pizzeria will be moving into the luncheonette spot. I believe he bought the building. |

How about the burnt out building "FOR LEASE" as the sign proclaims right on the other side of Parker? It was like that BEFORE I moved here. Still no different more than 3 years later. |

We keep joking about the "CHEO" that remains in the center of the mostly-defunct luncheonette sign, perhaps for an upscale restaurant "coming soon" a la S Orange? |

Right down the stret there is TARA's deli. They happen to have the very best bagels in town, bar none, and damn excellent coffee. The place gets packed with CHS kids at lunchtime, if you like that kinda thing, and Joe, the proprieter (oddly not named Tara) is a helluva nice guy. |

The Soulful Mr T I will have to try Tara's deli. I have driven by but never ventured inside the establishment. I enjoy coffee and bagels very much. I have found the bagels at Sonny's on South Orange Ave to be quite good. Their coffee is OK as well. But they have little else to offer and no place to sit down. Does Tara's have seating? |

Yes, Tara's has a few tables, and if you order your food "to stay" they'll even serve your sandwiches on real plates! |

Drove past Gordons/Mario's today... it looks like work is being done (that was fast!) and it appeared that the two will be connected, but I could be wrong. Still no word as to what exactly will go there? |

I like Tara's but, alas, they close kinda early and they aren't open sundays. They really cater to the CHS crowd. strings - I noticed work being done in both the luncheonette and gordons going on this evening at 7:4! They are working quickly, so hopefully that means a real plan |

Back to that dangerous and hideous mess on Valley St - That concrete building next to Maplewood Plaza and the karate gym. It has been an eyesore, a danger to others and a property value drain for the last 4 YEARS! What is going on with that building? |
