For everyone who got involved in my earlier question regarding my bad attorney...... I finally pulled the trigger this morning and fired him. The last straw: he forgot to send the mortgage commitment to the other party, ignored their letter requesting it, and yelled at my realtor when she called to remind him. When I called to follow up, I received absolutely no response. That was 5 days ago. His behavior just got more and more erratic as the weeks went on. In my letter, I told him that was my main issue - that and the fact he only seemed to respond to threats and otherwise ignored my phone calls. Well, low and behold, but what do I get an hour after sending my letter firing him? A message from him on my voicemail, with a desperate tone. He said his secretary had "paged him" because I had expressed "concerns" in my letter. He said he couldn't understand what my issue was, but he was in court all week, so if I could please call him he'd get back to me as soon as he could. How's that for a perfect example? (the first line in the letter was "I am writing to terminate you as my attorney" - so there shouldn't have been any ambiguity.) I've found someone else to carry us through closing, and things are already going better. Sure, I'll pay him for his "work" - if you can call it that - but I can't believe I didn't take everyone's advice and just cut the cord a few weeks ago. Thank you all for all of your help along the way. The advice here has been invaluable. |

Good call. From your posts its obvious -- this guy is using real estate work as "fill in" around his court work. All the best on the new house! Pete |

That's great. This is a stressful enough process without dealing with crap from the people who are supposed to be helping you. Now, on to the fun stuff, like packing and writing really big checks! |

You are in the right - completely. Maybe he'll learn from this experience, but probably not. |

NJGuy - good for you for standing your ground. Your now former attorney sounded as though he were about to ruin the entire deal. Best of luck with your new attorney and with your new house. |

You did the right thing... I wish you (from this point on!) a trouble free closing, and many happy years in your new home.

You don't want a litigator to do your real estate transactional work, and vice versa. |
