My six year old loves math (my husband and I credit, at least in part, his fascination with YuGiOh and learning to add points up through this card game).

Other than the South Orange Maplewood Adult School camp, which does have a math class for that age group, would anyone know of a one or two week camp that includes math for his age cohort? We prefer day camp, and other than our local area (including Montclair, Livingston, Summit and other nearby towns) are also open to a camp in NYC, as we both work in the city and could drop him off.

THANKS!

Have you checked out Math for Laughs here in town? I think they are doing a summer camp. www.mathforlaughs.com

We'll need to get him together with my 6 yo who loves math, too and has just developed a YuGiOh obsession (thanks to the bus to Marshall).

Is he currently in Grade 1 or Kindergarden?

If he's in first grade, you could try the Montclair State gifted program. They have two three-week sessions this summer. The structure is one each of math, science, humanities, and recreation, plus a free-activities period.

You need a teacher's recommendation or test scores beyond a certain cutoff to get in. Also your kid has to be in first grade now (entering 2nd in the fall). If your kid is doing well in school, I'm sure the teacher would be happy to write a recommendation.

It's a great program, lots of hands-on stuff and really fun.

Thanks, hismom. My son takes Math For Laughs in Marshall's after school enrichment program, and loves it. I am delighted that the woman who runs it might do a summer camp. Also, my son takes a school bus to Marshall - Pierre's bus to school, Wild Will's bus home from school. He (my son) is in p.m. kindergarten. I will private line you to see if we already know each other (!) and if not, if we could get our boys together to "duel!"

CLK, thanks for the information about the Montclair State program. I'm not sure my son is "gifted," though he does love adding big numbers in his head. We'll look into this for next summer, when he'll be entering second grade. I think I know you from the now-in-hibernation working parents yahoo e-mail group (the one Tom Reingold started).

Spry - Often I don't get PL - why I don't know. I'm fairly certain we know each other from Prospect. If I'm right, your husband dropped some stuff off at my house Thursday night. My son's a first grader on the green bus and is very jealous of anyone who has Pierre for a bus driver!

"Yes, we have no bananas!" (An old time song.)

I'll private line you through your e-mail address, which, of course, I have!
