I recently went to Maplewood Tire on the recommendations I read on MOL. I will say that the people that own it and the mechanics that work there are extremely friendly and outgoing. But I will refrain from posting my original tirade, as it would probably get me thrown off this board. However I will say that my experience was less than stellar which is unfortunate because I had high hopes after reading all the positive feedback. So I am unable to give a positive review of Maplewood Tire and if you want to know a few of the details you can PL me. I am now going to give Bernie's a shot.

I too, was unable to post a postive review of M-tire....they told me they couldn't Inspect my car because it was raining AFTER i had already lined up and paid for a rental that day. Odd. The sunoco up the road on Springfield Ave actually went there for me and picked up my car; inspected it, washed it for free, and has had my business ever since (which has easily surpassed $1,000's worth of work.) |

Bernie's is great-not always the cheapest, but impeccably honest and prices not out of sight. I once brought in my car and told them I needed a new exhaust system. They could have done it and made money, but they called me and said they could fix it with a quick solution and saved me a bundle. Another time I brought the car in thinking something was wrong, and they told me it was fine and did not charge me a nickel (and they were correct, it was fine). |

I've enjoyed my experience with South Orange Auto Repair on Valley Street. They've done my inspections and drove me home and picked me up when it was going to be a long wait. They put new tires on and again, drove me home and picked me up. They are extremely friendly and I think the prices are within reason (I always call my stepdad in Massachusetts who owns a repair shop to give him the prices I'm getting -- he always says, "sounds right to me").

Sorry about your bad experience kiggo. I just had a very good experience at Maplewood Tire. I'm not sure what I ran over but I managed to get a flat tire earlier this week. I threw on the dreaded donut spare and hustled over to Maplewood Tire. It was late in the day (after 4:30) but they managed to find the leak, plug it, put on the repaired tire and neatly pack away the spare in approx. 15 minutes and it cost $15. Marty |

Once again I want to go on record to recommend Allstar Motors on Valley in S. Orange. Ricky is one of the most honest businessmen I've ever met. We've used him for 20 years. He will never let you out of his garage in an unsafe car. He's found little problems with our cars and fixed them before they became big problems. I trust him with my life and my family's lives. |

NOT an honest place. My daughter had trouble there about 15 years ago (so maybe they've changed hands since?) but with all the good alternatives in this area I wouldn't bother with them. PL me for details OR if you know that they are not run by the same people (so I can take my objection back). |

I used Ridge for years and most recently Nelson's Automotive on Dunnell Rd. Couldn't tell you a bad experience for either of them. Nelson's are very honest & don't kill you with the price. |

I like the old-fashioned cavernous look of Nelson's garage.
