I just thought I should mention it here. The rumor was true. Dr. Mallampati retired and sold his practice. How odd that he wouldn't mention it to me on his last week there! I brought my dog back a week later, and Dr. Rogers was there. Well, I must say I like Dr. Rogers a lot already. He was very gentle with Red. Red is very nervous at the vet's office, and Dr. Rogers managed to calm him down a little. And he showed a lot of knowledge. So I recommend this new vet in town. I think he was implying that he'll be renovating the office, which is probably a good idea. Maplewood Animal Hospital Springfield Ave, across from Dunkin Donuts 973-762-5000

Tom - Do you think Dr. Rogers will he get a new antiseptic to clean the place? - the current smell freaks my cats out. I think the staff there is actually afraid of my little kitty because she hisses like a mountain lion when she goes there... (She's all talk really...) She starts hissing all the way out in the parking lot - I think she starts smelling that awful smell and goes into a tizzy...and we haven't even entered the building. She actually starts swatting at me as I'm putting her back into the carrier - sort of a "how dare you bring me to this place again" kind of beating.... The only reason I kept going there is because of Mallampati. Such sadness, but I guess I'll give Dr. Rogers a try... |

I asked Dr. Rogers if he's going to expand his hours. He said not yet. He has a lot of work to do around here, and he turned his head left and right and up and down. That's why I think he has renovation in mind. So with that, the smell should be gone, or at least new. Oddly, while dogs usually don't mind new places -- and the vet -- as much as cats do, we have the opposite problem. Miranda is almost serene at the vet's office, but Red is a total wreck.
