(Posted 2 months ago in WORK section - still looking.)

My 16 year old son Henry (17 in July) is looking for a summer job in Maplewood.

He'd like almost anything that will keep him busy and pay him some money - preferably he'd be working with people - not lifting boxes in the back of a warehouse - but that would do, too.

He's very bright, learns fast, tall and strong and is great with...grownups. He's extraordnarily personable and has a great sense of humor. He's serious and has plans for college to study computer engineering or film/video production. He's a very strong math student. He's become the lead technician in his school's theater department (for next year) and he is excited about that.

Any offers, leads or referrals would be appreciated.

The young folk who work at Pen & Jen's tea place at the Maplewood train station all seem really nice & are treated with respect by the boss ladies...maybe he could talk to Pen & Jen...if nothing else, Pen is great at knowing who needs what - she may know of something else.

If, at some point, he wanted to work more for expereince than money (though there may be some of that too), there are several film production folks in town & elsewhere that might have leads.

Good luck - he sounds like a great kid

momma, thanks for the idea - I'll pass it along to Henry! He was hoping that a film production opportunity might happen for him - still waiting to hear.

I wouldnt say he's an expert but he's used it, built his own spreadsheets, etc. He hasn't has a lot of call to use excel But, he's a very strong computer user...seems to take to it like the proverbial duck to water. Has made very sophisticated power point shows with animations and sound. Manipulates images, etc. And a strong math student.... Do you have a particular opportunity in mind? Thanks.

I could certainly hire Henry for some summer work, but it couldn't be full time...probably more in the vicinity of 15-20 hours a week for most of the weeks of the summer. If that might work for him, please PL me or leave a message on my office phone (973-762-7227) so we can discuss the particulars. Thanks so much!

Does he mow lawns? We were discussing on a different thread how it doesn't seem teenagers mow lawns anymore. I'm having trobule getting through to a landscaping co. and at this point, I'd rather just pay a teenager to mow my lawn and do clean up. I'd say this is a couple of hours work weekly. Let me know if he'd be interested in doing this and how much he'd want to make. Plus, he'd need to drive himself to and from my place, but we have our own lawn mower, equipment, etc.

Please PL me if he's interested.

If the price was right, we could use him to let our dog out to our fenced in back yard to pee. No walking needed. Certainly won't make Henry rich, but it could supplement his part time gig at Michelezembows.

Have Henry come fill out an application when we open (hopefully soon). We can teach him how to pull a great espresso, which might come in handy when he goes to college!

Check with Newark Academy and the Adult School. They might be able to use him as a counselor to teach the kids computers.

Camp Rivebend has an ad in The Item (Millburn's paper) for counselors. They're in Warren Township. Not far from here down Route 78. www.campriverbend.com 908.647.0664
