Okay, whales are off until late summer because there aren't any around apparently. Still looking for an activity a turning-10-year-old can do for his birthday (we would bring one or two friends along). Any advice on either a day of kayaking or canoeing in the Pine Barrens or tubing either there or on the Delaware? Is tubing something a 6-year-old sibling can do? Any recommendations on specific rental/guide outfits? Thanks!

Canoe on the Delaware. Camp overnight. Canoe back to your car the next day. Eat the fish you catch (bring hotdogs, just in case.)

Yes, Jersey Boy, I did search before posting. There are many, many outfits that do these types of things. One thing I appreciate about this message board is getting specific recommendations from people who have "been there, done that." You know, "this company on the Delaware was excellent and organized," "that one left us stranded for two hours," "this specific guide in the Pine Barrens made our day particularly memorable." If your link is such, then thank you very much for the recommendation. I appreciate it.

I wasn't trying to be a dink. (it comes naturally.) We did it. I think it was the company I linked. That's why I linked it. Have fun.

Thank you. It looks like a good one (the first several sites Google found looked pretty junky, which is why I asked).

The Delaware is a good day venture and Kittatiny Canoes is probably the best outfitter in the game. If going at this time of year, the river is cold, so tubing might be a bit rough. We usually drive into Matamoros, PA & they take us upriver to either Staircase Falls or Pond Eddy. I recommend the shorter trip (7 mi) if it's your first outting. Be sure to call ahead for reservations.
