I know this has been covered before, but the search function seems to be out. We are getting a flat screen tv (42") which we need mounted on our plaster walls. So far, we have gotten installation estimates in the range of 300-500. That seems like a lot of money to hang a TV on the wall and run some wires. We aren't getting a theatre system, just the TV. My questions are: 1) Is this a reasonable estimate for this sort of thing, and 2) Does anyone have any recommendations on who we should use.

Campbell29, we are needing the same assistance, so any info you receive, I'll be on board :-) Actually, I think the electrician working in our home now during the renovation will be able to do this. I think any electrician should be able to do this for you. We recently called MGM for some last minute wiring work that Mr. Kibbegirl fouled up big time in our current home. They did a fabulous job and the cost was well below what I expected. I'd call them back for sure. They have a banner on MOL...give them a call.

campbell29,

Unfortunately, the estimate you received is in the ballpark. I do agree that it is a bit steep. If you call the manufacturer, they will recommend a company for you. You will have recourse if anything goes wrong.

I don't know what kind of wiring you need but if you have plaster wall, you should be able to do it yourself and save some money. My suggestions is you buy the bracket and give it a go. It should take you approximately 2 hours.

I believe this is a reasonable quote assuming you want done the kind of job I would demand.

I will eventually have this done as well and I want the wires to be completely and seamlessly hidden in the wall; the tv will be on the wall as though it were a framed picture.

Peter Seckel of Thornhill Electronics will do this for me; get an estimate from him, his work for us has been excellent: 973.762.0200.

Watch well, all.

David

Any chance you bought the TV at best buy? They offer an installation service for about $150. Maybe they would do the install even if you didn't buy it there?
