can anyone give me some ideas for a birthday present for a 10 year old boy...around $20-$30. I have no experience with this demographic! Thanks! |

My 10 year old son and buddies are past the Yugi oh cards and Lego bionicles stage. (Sports cards good, still!). I would suggest a gift certificate that can be used for a PC game, video game, music (kids this age seem to just be getting into it - especially if they have older siblings!) OR something sports related if he has a favorite sport or a team. Bestbuy or Circuit City or B&N or Borders are good choices. Or Blockbuster-- he can rent movies or games and buy them, too. Pete

I agree with pete's suggestions. It wouldn't hurt to find out what the kid has/is interested in. Ten-year olds have very varied interests. For some listening to music is key; others it's sports; others it's playing music, etc. While this is a total generalization, I don't find that most boys at that age are into books as gifts. Yes they may read the latest Harry Potter, etc. but reading a book is not usually their first choice as an activity. Of course there's always exceptions. For example, if the kid has an ipod already, perhaps a $10 itunes card and $10 gift certificate for Borders (for books - parents' love that - or music). If the kid is into playing sports, a gift certificate for the local sports store near them would always be nice. If they're around here, I much prefer Modell's over Sports Authority for all sports related things for my 14 year-old. If the kid is into a particular sport in a very heavy way perhaps a subscription to a magazine. For example, my son has received subscriptions to various skateboarding magazines at that age since he was and is still into skateboarding. Best bet, find out the interests and make it something meaningful. |

I wonder if it's a regional thing...my guys had been past Yugi-Oh as well, but it seems really hot again, at least in Florida, with all kinds of new specialty decks and tournaments. But you're right - you really can't go wrong with a gift card to EB Games or Best Buy |

2 super soakers. I have a huge aversion to guns, even play guns. But then I thought, wouldn't it be wonderful if all the guns in the world just shot water? Anyway, just gave a pair to my 8 year old nephew and he & his 11 year old brother played with them all day. |
