i have/had a beautiful mound of meadow sage that i planted last year. i cut it back hard before winter. this year, it grew back tremendously but it's so top heavy that the whole mound looks like my dogs rolled in it...all fallen over and flattened. if i cut it back NOW will it regrow NOW? please help, you green thumbs out there !! |

I don't know this particular sage. Can you put it in one of those plant support rings? Some plants are just floppers and leaners no matter what you do. My Russian sage is constantly facing execution for this type of behavior. |

I'd bet it will regrow now. All the literature says to deadhead it after blooming for another flush of blooms later this year, so clearly, it's not done growing for the year. I would cut it back by half. |

i'll try that, millie. these things got so much wider and taller than last year when i planted them. maybe cutting them back by half will make it all stand at attention again. the entire perennial is covered with white spike flowers....all laying over flat against the earth. thanks for the advice. |
