I've searched under heat rash, but the spots aren't bumpy or small. We're talking big red areas of skin. No raised portions, no flaking, scaling, etc. Maybe they're hives??? They've appeared 2 days in a row, on my 2.5 year old first, at a bout 1 pm, then later on my 5.5 year old, around 6 pm. They come on after we've gone out in the sun (which is why I looked up heat rash). My son has a particularly red nose (not quite a big as in my picture, left), eyes are itchy, back of neck (which has some evidence of prickly heat). He rubbed his face so much last night his nose started bleeding. Happily, the spots are gone by morning. I did put on sunscreen (baby stuff) those two days on both kids. ANyone ever had an allergic reaction to sunscreen? What's it look llike? My pediatrician is out of the office until 12. |

My oldest had this and I put it down to heat... I also gave her some baby allergy medicine (per docs advice) and it seemed to fade away. Heat will do strange things. She wasn't "out of sorts" just extremely blotchy! It went.. |

My kids are all allergic to sunscreen. They got itchy and blotchy. They are allergic to the Parabens (a formaldehyde-based preservative) and to the Cinnamates (Octyl cinnamate is a sunscreen). I use Jason Chemical Free Sunscreen. Do a test patch on their arm, in a circle and see if you get a reaction. Good Luck! m |

My baby gets blotches like that from melon. It's weird. Only when it drips on him. |

my kids have skin reactions to sunscreen too but I've found that California Baby bug and sun is great-you can get it on line-I just ordered some from SmartBomob.com-they seem to have the best price. |

We had _four_ kids at our beach house last weekend with this. None of whom had shown sunscreen allergy in the past. We put it down to baby jellyfish in the bay, but maybe there was something going round. Seemed to fade in 24-48 hours. Did you visit any beaches? There was also a note from his school about this going round: http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/skin/fifth.html Phil |

I had the fifth disease when I was five. I think it's accompanied by other symptoms though like fever and such. I don't remember much about how it felt to have it, but I do remember that I missed my kindergarten class' Halloween party because of it and I was very mad at my mother for making me stay home. I told her that I didn't think I was sick, and that the red splotches were probably just a result of sitting too close to the heater on the school bus. Clever reasoning for a five year old, but not clever enough to convince mom....
